Singapore-based CaptiveVision Capital has all but completed its takeover of Skywest Airlines, Western Australia's major regional carrier, lifting its stake to almost 80 per cent...

Skywest heads East announcement... (again)

Last year (Singapore backed) Skywest was talking up 5 Airbuses for transcontinental services, (strange that’s exactly what Tiger ended up with), but... this year they are promoting F100s on Kalgoorlie - East Coast routes!

"Skywest CEO Paul Daff said the new aircraft would be used to boost services and add routes, including a service between Kalgoorlie and the east coast." - http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,22185268-23349,00.html (Also discussed, Air New Zealand's latest long haul upgrade.)

Seems lots of transcontinentals being added, Tiger are doing it, ozJet are tinkering with it, and now skywest

Kalgoorlie to East Coast flights could potentially really take off. I know lots of people that hate travelling via Perth to get to Kalgoorlie. This could force Qantas to get back into the route.

From Travel Today Newsletter-

WA-based Skywest Airlines will launch a new route between Kalgoorlie and

Melbourne in October after signing a lease for two Fokker 100 jets. Skywest has introduced the new service to take advantage of the current mining boom in the state. The new jets increase the carrier’s fleet to 12, with Skywest to take delivery of the aircraft in September.

In a telephone interview, Chatfield said that "I'd like to consider Singapore services ... this year. There is growth there.”

The Perth-based airline currently leases 10 passenger plans and is expecting two more.

Mr Chatfield also commented that the airline is in line to accomplish full year net profit to end June in accordance with a nine month guidance of a 475% increase.
