Singapore QF/BA lounge new changes

Landed in Singapore from QF not long ago.

Went to QF Singapore Lounge and asked if I can be allowed entry as I am on an MH flight in morning and not quite ready to go to T2.

Not an issue. Lounge looks great and there is all this seating space everywhere but no desktops.

I ask why?
"Because everyone travels with a smartphone and an iPad".
Hmmm. Not I....

So what do I do now? She tried to find their own iPad but no luck. I can go out in terminal.

One of the reception staff asked for my Platinum card and itinerary and we walked over to BA lounge. He waited outside while I went inside and asked. Even though I am on a Oneworld flight I must have a boarding pass. Well I am not going to T2 to get a boarding pass and come back again.

Back outside again the Qantas staff member was extremely disappointed with the snub from BA reception. And he took my Oneworld card and itinerary and walked inside the SATS premier lounge and then talking with reception and taking me inside to desktops. :)

What fantastic service. The lady in SATS premier lounge mentioned there are no boarding calls and I told her not to worry as I will need to leave mid morning to collect my luggage and head over to T2.

I know I am not entitled to lounge access but if you are nice to people they will go out of their way to help.

And Qantas was it so difficult to have a few desktops?

It is surprising there would be no computers. Sure I travel with an iPad, but that is no substitute for working with a screen/keyboard/mouse on occasion. Hopefully they will realise the error of their ways if enough people ask where the PCs are. (*hint*)

I actually wanted to print a couple of things for tomorrow as I ran out of time in the SYD F lounge with the DYKWIA meeting....

Just checked Qantas' Lounge Locations on its website and lo and behold SIN has no computers.

I probably don't miss the computers that much, but it does mean no printing, which is a little bummer. In lieu of no printing, I wonder if the front desk (service desk?) has a printer behind it or something, which they could possibly process a print job for you (doesn't quite work if you are printing something off a website, e.g. boarding pass or e-ticket).

They should probably just install four or so. "Inadequate" in book terms, but if they truly believe most people will be BYO then surely purchasing, connecting and servicing four computers should be a trivial cost (and on-cost) - the techies can give a better insight here.

I was asked to provide feedback but I am guessing I am in the minority.

Didn't notice the computers were missing but didn't look for them as I carry my own and a work one.

What I did not ice was there was no where to store bags, which was a bit annoying when on your own and not really wanting to leave them on there own while getting food or going to the toilet. When i was in Melbourne F lounge they asked did I want to store my bag and the put in the clock room and gave you a ticket for it, which is handy when going HLO. I did ask them was there anywhere to store it but they didn't have anywhere.

I don't think the old J or F Lounges didn't have anywhere to leave bags. They could put it behind the desks, but it definitely would not be mandated.

Come to think of it, in the SYD T1 F Lounge, do they have somewhere to store bags?

Some of the old style international QF Lounges have "baggage racks" at entry, but that's as good as leaving your bag unattended in the lounge proper anyway (because the racks aren't monitored by any staff). I think these racks are a holdover from "good days" when it was assumed everyone that used a lounge was an honest human being. Can't take that risk any more.

When I think of most lounges in the world - even F ones - I don't think many at all have places to store your bags. Those that have the facility are in the minority IME.

Wow no computers? Most of the time either of the lounges were busy, all the computers were in use.

I dislike travelling with my laptop as it's heavy and requires removal for screening. I often use the desktops to check emails, news and Facebook.

FRA JAL J lounge have key operated lockers
IST TK lounge have maybe 100 or more perspex pin-code lockers
HKG QF J lounge has an (unsecure) bag/coat area

Interesting that they took the computers out. The computers in the old J lounge back in the days always had quite heavy usage. Guess I'll be staying off the WIFI on my future visits though - sounds like using the net via my phone's 4G LTE connection would be much faster.

Personally I think all lounges should have some sort of desktop/tablet access to internet with the capability to print as well.

Using the excuse that everyone travels with smartphones and tablets these days is not good enough. It does not cost that much to purchase desktops and install them in the lounge.

It does not cost much to buy, but to run is a different story, your looking at 1.5k per year per PC, hardly chicken feed.

Add LH SENATOR lounge at FRA (Gate Z50 one at least) - keyed lockers observable from the lounge agent's desk.
