Over the past 2 years I purchased on 5 separate occasions extra leg room on Singapore Airlines.
When paying extra on a flight you do have some expectation of getting at least the same service or better in the cabin.
From my experience you get the following:
100% of the time you will be the last to receive food service in the cabin
80% of the time food choice will no longer be available
This is based on my 5 flights

In contrast Virgin Australia when booking extra leg room on (Paid International Flights) you are personally greeted and food service is given first. This is good service and always happy to pay extra.

I have emailed Singapore Airlines several times and made suggestions.

Singapore Airlines does not see this as an issue and have given no indication that they will change their food service schedule.

In conclusion yes get extra leg room be aware that you will be the last to be given food service and have an 80% chance that the meal you want will not be available.

Singapore airlines is one of the top carries to travel on but they have totally failed in this case.

Regretfully I have another Flight sin - syd next week

So you’re saying when the crew get to an extra legroom row, they skip it, continue serving standard rows and then return last to the extra legroom row?

I thought SQ served the Y cabin, front to rear and then 2nd service was rear to front - so both groups get to complain about not having a choice of meal. As happened to me once in a Y bulkhead SYD>SIN but the FA went to the J cabin and got me one of their meals (which i also couldnt eat as it was lamb but hubby enjoyed it).

Why do you expect better treatement because you purchased a extra legroom seat? You got what you paid for (ie, extra leg room). You didnt pay for custom service but I do suggest you pre order a special dietary meal if you want to be served first. Ive done this as well and not been disappointed with service.

It does depend on which aircraft type and which exit row you choose - those exit rows towards the middle of the cabin will be served last, at least for the first meal.

The suggestion to pre-order a special meal is sound, although depends on your preferences. I’m not a big fan of fish, especially in airline meals, so I will sometimes order the “seafood free” option - which is usually chicken - to be on the safe side.

Like others have pointed out, you've paid extra for the leg room and I hope you got it every time :) Honestly, I wouldn't be expecting anything more that the legroom :)

I'm not sure if I've experienced this. Most cases I select exit rows or bulk heads and have got nothing more than "Welcome back Mr.Sudarsanan" and an occasional drink or two from J when travelling Y.

But if some have experienced this, I'd be interested to know :

1. How does the FA know that you're travelling on a "paid" extra legroom seat or if the seat was "assigned" at check-in as it was either available or assigned due the passengers' status?

2. Also, my understanding is that in a flight the FA's can only see the passenger name in full and their FF status. No mention of the fare class or any such pricing related information is made available

80% of the time food choice will no longer be available

I hear you mate, as others pointed out, I'd suggest that the best option would be to pre-order your meal so that you are given the meal first before the actual service starts. I pre-order all my meals because I'm a strict veg. for religious purposes and can't eat even eggs :)
