I did not notice anything when I was there in December. Is this a brand new terminal or renovations to existing terminal space?

Flights to/from Australia are now in Terminal 3 so if connecting to Malaysia, Thailand or Philippines then you need to proceed to Terminal 2.

SQ009 went thought last night, says its nice, check his trip report i am sure he will have photos.

I noticed it on the left hand side of the road when the taxi was taking me to catch my Cathay flight in late Dec. They were still landscaping the gardens at the time, although the road to T3 was open.

Looks like a very long walk from T3 to T2 once the shuttles have stopped working (1am?).

The shuttle operates between 5.00 am and 2.30 am. There are moving walkways provided.

Personally I think I will do the walk anyway. After 8 hours sitting in an aircraft seat (and before boarding another flight for more of the same) I am ready for the exercise. The map seems to indicate it is a walk of about an hour, I'm guessing it is more likely about 40 minutes at a modest pace, an hour and a bit if you browse the shops along the way.

I was there on the 9th for a 5 hour transit when it was first operational and they were handing out promotional "T3 caps". I thought it was rather funny so I took a couple (cap for airport terminals...) Quite impressed that given it's the first day, all the shops and facilities seems to be ready - only a couple of "coming soon" shops. Having said that I noticed many shops' staff were discussing the layout and how to improve it.

Overall impression is a nice terminal with a lot more (and better) seating and lots of free Internet terminals than T2 which is good if you don't have lounge access. E.g. they have reclined seats (like a beach chair) along the tarmac sides of the terminal. Similar selection of shops to T2.

The only negative thing is the actual boarding gates. Unlike T2 where most gates have their own screening area, I boarded at gate A5 which had to share its with a number of other gates. I waited till last minute to board as the screening area is very close to the gates. It turned out everyone had the same thoughts and the screening area was totally chaotic. Definitely prefer T2 on that aspect.
