From 'The Australian' 30 July 2020:

Virus-hit Singapore Airlines suffers loss

'Singapore Airlines (SIA) reported a first-quarter net loss of more than $US800 million, the latest carrier to take a massive hit as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Passenger traffic was reduced to almost zero in the three months to June, SIA said, leading to the Asian carrier’s biggest-ever quarterly net loss of Sg$1.12 billion ($US816.58 million).

The numbers extended the flag-carrier’s financial bloodletting after losing Sg$732 million in the 2019 fourth quarter ended March 31, leading to its first-ever annual loss.

“Demand for air travel evaporated as travel restrictions and border controls were imposed around the world to contain the spread of the virus,” SIA said.'

Not a good portent for other airlines in Oz or Asia, although QF and what's left of VA are not identical as SQ doesn't have a domestic air network.

I wonder whether that will be in agreement with another country (ID/MY) to utilise their airspace? Can't imagine pulling off 3 hours of flight within Singapore's airspace would be an easy feat - you'd end up with dizzy pilots 😂

Given they take fees (I assume they do) from overflight I’m sure Indonesia and Malaysia would be happy to oblige. In fact you could easily do three hour round trips and stay within Indonesian airspace.

This is disappointing, if not unexpected. Always good fares MEL-WLG-MEL return, even if the timings not ideal.

I could be wrong as it’s been a big day, but I don’t read the article as MEL-WLG being cancelled. Are the routes linked somehow?

So my F flight CBR - SIN is no more. Very disappointed.

F flights from Australia (and many other destination as well) to SIN are not being sold or 2021 yet (well earliest I could find was 4 Sep), so I think regardless of withdrawal from the route or not, anyone who booked F might well be very disappointed, although who knows. Hopefully by Mar/Apr, at least the 77W's will have recommenced service to SYD.

I wonder if / what SQ might suggest as a way to SIN. I can see a QF reward J flight CBR MEL/SYD SIN. Just in case the rest of the F SQ trip to JFK comes off.

(I don’t actually believe that this trip will come off in April/May either because there’s no TI or a vaccine or I don’t want to go anywhere because they have Covid).

SQ also no longer will fly direct MEL - WLG, or vv so no more SQ KF lounge in MEL, or the AirNZ Koru int in WLG, no more cheap visits across the ditch for cheap in J.
Chris C on Executive Traveller said so, according to Mr Goh, it will be "suspension", so it might come back 2 or more years or maybe never.
Edit: even though AirNZ flies MEL - WLG, they don't have a J service, and Koru membership/KF SK lounge membership, are not cheap either.
I did MEL - WLG on the 777 and loved it, was hoping to do it again on the 350, kept looking for dates, nothing available came up in 2021, so decided to check Executive Traveller, and yep, MEL - WLG suspended, ... read it how you may, the word suspended that is.

I actually had SQ288 SYD-CBR-SIN(-CAN) J awards for 6 people booked for April next year. I've just received cancellation email from SQ. I have requested for full refund of miles and cash component. Not sure how long it will take SQ to do.

It is a shame as I was actually looking forward to fly out of CBR internationally for the first time. I've been flying in and out of CBR regularly to other domestic cities for 2 years. Quite a nice airport.
