There was some discussion recently on the QF delays forum about the reliability or otherwise of new(ish) 787's, I have to report that any such problems are not confined to Qantas!
I was booked on SQ918, 787-10 service SIN-MNL (dep 1925) on Monday 4/9, having previously arrived on SQ238 MEL-SIN. Boarding started on schedule and completed; then we sat at the gate for a long time, and eventually (~1945) the captain announced that a problem with the undercarriage doors had been found in the final walkaround, and we might not be leaving anytime soon. Finally at about 2030 it was announced that this was indeed the case, and because of the time required to prepare another a/c and avoid the MNL curfew, we would be departing at 0300 the next morning!
As the prospect of spending 6 hours in the terminal at this time of night, even in the SKL, was unappealing, I adjourned to the transit hotel, which is actually not bad at all, and managed to get some useful rest before we departed at 0300; I have tended to be a bit cynical about the value of flat beds on such short routes, but I can only say that in this case it was a godsend!
I must say in fairness that this is the first non-trivial delay I have experienced on SQ in a very long time.
