SIN and HKG OW Lounges

Interesting situation in SIN QF first class lounge a couple of nights ago. I went off to meet serfty and Jenny coming off QF10 while I was waiting to board QF6.

They decided to see if they could use the lounge so that Jenny could rest and the keep me company for a little while. The lady at reception handing over my original exit row boarding pass for QF6 asked if they were my guests and we mentioned that they had just arrived on QF10 but were not leaving until the next day. We were told that this was not an arrivals lounge but since serfty has partner gold status he was allowed to stay and they both kept me company for an hour.

I think it is worth a try to see if I could lounge during long transit in SIN in September. Silly me picked SIN as a transit on the day of the Grand Prix. All Intercontinental properties are totally booked out so it will either be transit hotel or one of the hotel 81s in Geylang and the karaoke bars for company.

JohnK, i would have tried to make one of those catch ups we have never managed but i actually don't really want to be in Singapore at F1 weekend even though i am a huge fan, i will for work probably be in Europe the week preceeding so i was thinking of some extended stay... Either Greece or maybe Italy, or go east and finally see some of the countries i have not see in Eastern Europe.

True not an arrivals lounge but one of the only airports you can even try since departures and arrivals are the same areas. Thankfully for us any-time access would get us a shower.

The agent had decided to allow access with a "exception" type assent but wanted to see our inbound BPs.

The agent visibly relaxed when she saw my WP card and waved away our our BPs with a smile telling us she no longer needed to see them.

Thanks to everyone for all their advice. Just got back from o/seas and managed to visit both Cathay first class and business lounges at HK - the noodle bar in the Wing lounge is great! Shame the Qantas HK lounge isn't as great and also seemed far busier early in the morning. Now all Qantas need to do is get the LHR T4 lounges improved and things will be fine... although it's all made up for by using the First class lounge in Melbourne, which is awesome. I'm converted to sticking with QF for international flights for so long as i get access to that lounge!

Cheers everyone.

As a QF WP you get access to the F lounge flying CX and QF out of MEL (not sure if BA fly to MEL anymore?) so you don't have to fly QF to access the lounge ;)

Not going to happen given that Qantas and BA intend to move their Kangaroo Route flights to T3 in January next year; thus giving them no further planned presence there.

Will all longhaul flights at Heathrow eventually operate from Terminal 5?

No, we will move the flights listed below to a newly refurbished British Airways check-in zone at Terminal 3 in January 2009.

- Bangkok
- Singapore
- Sydney

That's ok then - I guess QF will establish a decent F lounge presence? Might be an interesting situation with three separate OW lounges at T3

No BA flights from MEL any more. BA only flies to SYD now, and that may not last much longer according to rumours.

I would not assume so. The CX FLounge at LHR T3 is not to the same standards as their HKG lounges (understandably), nor to the level of BA's FLounges at LHR. So if QF share with CX at T3 it not going to be as good as the olf BA T4 FLounge - no more JW Blue :(.

Unlikely to be back before then, but i assume the Qantas via HKG will also be moved to T3? This seems to be the flight i've used most often from MEL as the timings are much more convenient.

Yeah, I can confirm there's no more BA aircraft to MEL, however (as I'm sure you all know) BA does codeshare on all Qantas flights from London to Melbourne.

Good to know I can get into Qantas First lounge flying Cathay... does this apply to just Qantas First and Platinum members or can Cathay First and Emerald members also access Qantas First lounge? If so, why would anyone use the Cathay First lounge when that's available(if there is such a thing at Melbourne)?

Yes, its a oneworld benefit.

There is such a thing in MEL, some are not aware of this oneworld benefit.

Conversely, many QF Elite travellers at HKG will use the QF/BA "Hong Kong" lounge rather than the "The Wing/Pier" (which are far better IMO).

What rumours? I've got flights booked to Bkk on Ba in Dec:shock:

A STACK of rumours around that BA will shortly be ceasing flying past SIN/BKK/HKG, leavinf all AU flights to QF.

Seek, and yee shall find....

Dave

The "shortly be ceasing" have been circulating for a while though. The current oil crisis probably isnt helping and QF having Y+ probably doesnt help either.

Just check around for F awards SYD-SIN and you will see plenty on BA...

I wouldn't worry too much about rumours.

If flights to SYD do cease then most likely you will be accommodated on a QF flight or worst case scenario onto the JQ flight. ;)

I hope not J* as I have a J ticket!
