Short Platinum status run from Melbourne....

I just did this run on Sunday. It is a long day but was fairly relaxing as the flights weren't full.

I did it on Boxing day and I am surprised i wasn't wheeled off the plane in an alcoholic coma in MEL!

OK, due to original travel/requal plans falling through I am doing a number of these runs (first time I have ever done a status run:oops:), the first being this weekend. What I want to know is what story I can dish up to the FAs when I hop back on the turnaround at ASP. Not sure I'm comfortable telling the truth about being on a status run.

I told them why i did it, the just laughed at with me. (got the extra SC so i could give Partner Gold to my brother). flying in and out didn't seem that unusual to them at all.

am I missing somthing ? when I look at points +pay its about $1400 +50000 points

Search any seat awards for MEL-ASP, then select the flights via Sydney. Usually around $38k each way before knocking down the cash component.

I told the FA that I was doing a status run. He hadn't heard of it, so I had to explain it to him. Seeing as the same staff work the SYD-ASP-SYD route, I figured he will realize quickly enough when I reboarded the plane 30 minutes after getting off! Business was very quiet, only 3/12 on the way there and 5/12 on the way back. Regardless, I actually think the FA went out of his way to make sure I was okay because he knew I had a long day of flying, so I wouldn't be afraid of telling them.

They're used to it. Both of the runs I did in December had people doing the out and back in the same day. The FA's like having people on board who enjoy travelling and will look after you.

I did the MEL-SYD-AYQ run in a day and had a ball. The FA thought it was a great way to spend a day and treated me like a king.

Enjoy the travel.

I will recommend sitting on the left hand side into ASP, you get better views of various sites on the way in.

Points+Pay is the wrong option, you need to select Any Seat Award.

Re: Short Platinum status run from SYDNEY....

Sorry to hijack this thread a little......but on the same theme:)
I need 280SC to maintain QF WP ex SYD. I was thinking a Jasa Syd-Adl (overnight)-Bne-Tsv-Bne-Syd earning 280 SCs + about 9K QF pts, costing 72K (net 63K) and about $370. Can anyone suggest anything better? My parents live in Adl so accomodation should be free;). Just holding off a little in case I get a dble SC promo...:p
Thanks

Cheers! The prospect of 'fessing up that I'm on a status run is not so daunting now. :)

There isn't much around as you need to connect through a city in order to maximize the earning. You'd have better earning within Aus.
