This was a pretty empty cabin - just 3 of us, so service was amazing. Hardly sat down and I had my glass of Krug. Orders taken before takeoff, so second glass and nuts very soon after take off.

The suite feels wider than the Emirates one.

And now the food. Caviar was good - it is one of my failings. I really like the Huon red caviar from Tassie. Lobster was OK -diificult dish to get right in the air - Asparagus was divine -could have eaten a whole plateful. My FA was quite distraught, because I only had dessert and wouldn't have cheese or fruit. She even offered to bring the fruit so I could see it, in the hope it would tempt me. Salad was good - so nice to have something other than a few green leaves.

The chef from Aria seemed to be involved in the food for this flight.

I had a glass of the Dom as well - lovely dry champagne, but I loved the Krug.

Mr FM was going to have the Chardonnay with the Lobster but Daniel suggested the Burgundy and it worked well (but then he brought the Chardonnay as well so he could compare!).

I like the way the tea is served in a decent mug. I have been fighting wit Qantas' pot and little cup for years. Clearly I am very clumsy as I always end up with tea sloshed everywhere, but not with the mug :)

Service was immaculate and very friendly. I lost track of the number of hot towels we had.

It should feel wider. The main deck is 70cm wider then the upper, and when divided across 4 seats you end up with an extra 17.5 cm of width per suite (assuming the aisles are the same).

Our FA offered to make up the double bed and move us to other suites to sit in - I think she was quite disappointed when we refused, but it seemed a lot of effort for a daytime flight.

After watching a movie it was time for more food!

Then we had a lovely surprise. At the beginning of the flight we had been chatting to our FA and mentioned we were going to Langkawi after Singapore. She had said it was a lovely place for a honeymoon and Mr FM said we were going there to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary (a bit late as Mr FM sulked because he wanted to go to a cosplay event, so I moved our holiday - not that I am bitter or holding grudges).

Anyway all all the staff turned up with a tray of goodies (and mocktails because we said we couldn't drink anymore) and most amazing card which they had made and signed. We were just blown away.

Much classier to exude an air of familiarity and restraint and not of an excited first timer in cabins such as these

How did they come up with that card let alone the number 36?

apparently they used a menu to create the card and then somehow found pictures and stuck them on. She did ask what year it was but then got it a little wrong - it is 35 not 36. They said they had a lot of fun doing it, but we are still enchanted with what they did :). I suspect they raided a few magazines to get the pictures!

Fantastic service going above and beyond.
So now you have to go back for number 36!

it is a lovely old hotel, with friendly staff. We are in the Noel Coward suite, complete with some of his works to read :)

Just a bit of information for anyone new to Singapore. The MRT is terrific to use - fast, safe and inexpensive. We had ezylink cards from years ago, but they no longer worked so we bought new ones and have been travelling on the MRT to various places.

You can get the MRT to and from Changi as well, but taxis are also not expensive. Around $30 from Changi to the Marina Bay Area. The big advantage of a taxi vs MRT is that you travel down a road with beautiful hedges of flowers. What a wonderful first impression of a city.

After a hard day's shopping on Orchard Road (yes LtL I have a dress and no you can't see it because it is being altered), we headed for Sentosa.

We went Sentosa a number of times in the 90s with the kids and it is a terrific place for holiday activities. We also enjoyed the historical nature of Fort Siloso. Last time we went, was 2002 and it was looking very run down then.

What a change! It has been totally rebuilt with hotels, restaurants and a Universal studios. The poor Merlion which used to seem huge, is now rather swamped by buildings!

Getting to Sentosa used to be a bit challenging, but now is so easy. You can still get the cable car, but there is a monorail across and even better you can walk!

You can easily get the MRT to Waterfront (purple line) and then either the monorail or boardwalk. It is about 500m to walk. The walkway is covered and has travelators, or you can walk actually on the boardwalk next to the water. If you walk it is free to enter Sentosa until the end of 2016 (normally a huge $1). We used the boardwalk both ways. It was particularly lovely at night with all the lights and you could see the cable cars - looking like fireflies in the sky.

Will add photos later if I can extract them from Mr FM - he was muttering about the ambient light from the city ruining his photos. I will also have photos from Joel Rubuchon. Fabulous restaurant!

The Sofitel hotel on Sentosa used to be something different and I have stayed there a few times when it was part of SLHs. Quite pleasant with the ponds etc. Last time I visited Sentosa I thought it had become rather tacky with all the new ventures.

Excellent news on the dress mother of the bride :)

It used to be beautiful with lots of gardens but now I agree it is a bit if a concrete jungle and I felt quite sorry for the Merlion. We were just going to the restaurant and it had felt quite lively at night. I think the walk at night on the boardwalk is worthwhile as the lights were beautiful and lots of reflection into the water.
