Shop small to return in November

I had an email confirmation seconds after my purchase yesterday...
Same for me with a restaurant last night, then again this afternoon an email notification immediately purchase completed at a local deli.

edit: Just received another amex (NAB) in the post today...alas to late to put it to work. ;)

Registered when the email first came out (both of my cards) but doubt I could be bothered spending a lot of time to get a paltry amount...if it happens, well and good

Only 2 days left now. Finishes on 30th November.

I thought I would be smart this lunchtime and went around the newsagents / convenience stores in North Sydney to see if I could do a few $20 OPAL top-ups at half-price. It was a near total failure. Only 7 Eleven accepted Amex and did OPAL top up and I would be amazed if get $10 back for that. I did find 3 newsagents that accepted Amex but none did OPAL.

I topped up from 6 places. Most charged $1 but some charged less. There is a list here in case you are interested. Maxed opal limit on 2 cards. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/168362 just need to make sure those places are still in the amex list. The world square newsagency doesnt seem to be on the amex site anymore.

Edit: Just realized you said North Sydney. There are quite a lot in CBD.

I might be in City on Sunday so if I have time I will try some of those that seem to accept Amex. I notice that no-one is claiming any success in North Sydney on the Ozbargain list and my experience bears that out sadly. Roll on Shop Small 2015 - I will be more organised then rather than trying to claim credits at the last minute.

Me too I just did 20 transactions today (2 opal cards). very confusing and tons of receipts. after this promo I will end up with over $1000 amex statement credits this year. couldn't be happier :D

Whilst I have an Opal card, can't load it from up here in Brisbane, using one of the "small shops"...

Looked at all the options near work now and home over the weekend. Fail...

I purchased a Westfield Gift Voucher and receieved the $10 credit. The email took 24 hours to arrive (all my other emails from Amex arrived within a minute of making payment) but everything went through ok.

There is a $2.95 service charge for the Westfield gift voucher but if you are looking for another $20 purchase this may be the way to go.

Hey, if you guys are in CBR, don't forget we are having a CBR meet up tomorrow at the Dumpling House in Civic at 1230.

How does Silo compare to Flute in Fyshwick?

Silo does better tart than Flute in my opinion. I love Silo's Pear and Caramel Tart, and also its Creme Brulee Tart.

Strictly comparing almond croissant, I would say it's 50-50, but I preferred the ones at Flute. The almond-flavoured custard tastes better at Flute.

I go for cake and almond croissant for Flute, and dive into all the tarts, and their cheese selections at Silo.

Btw, Silo charges 2% for AMEX.

Off topic, are you using Westfield's giftcard as a shopsmall option?

Bottle of coke and a pack of smokes $14 from some grocery store 8n the tunnel at central....bargain its almost like buying the imports from the dodgy tobacconist!

Hope to to see you back next year.

If in Sydney - all "Metro" brand petrol stations are taking part in the promotion.
Metro Hurlstone Park came through but 3% surcharge on Amex.

My final transaction for Shop Small was yesterday at a petrol station in Lakemba. Takes Amex but not sure it appears on Shop small list. Transaction has not yet appeared on my statement.

How do I check if the retailer participates in Shop Small without going through the Shop Small website listing stores at random?

You're able to search for a specific store's trading name on the shop small map.

Geez it was hard work on the last day trying to fill up every car in the fleet and jerry cans by going to different servo's.

That would cost you more in man hours than the return in credits!
I took a pragmatic approach, redeeming where I could but not bursting a gasket to reach a pre-set goal.
