In Business
SYD > YVR (QF)
YVR > DFW > MIA (AA)
MIA > LAX > LAS (AA)
LAS > LAX (AA) > LHR (BA)

Amazing! Just wondering if you (and other gurus) wouldn't mind to indicate the points required on such itineraries?! Thanks in advance

Great topic, and one I have to thank AFF solely for. If not for this forum I'd be wasting my points on a Y upgrade to Premium Economy and thinking I was doing alright.
We are onto our third award flight, all in business class and linked into holidays.
These are all on the 280K/330K points deal.

August 2022
SYD-HND-HEL (JAL)
HEL-OSL - (Finnair)
land stop
OME-ANC-SFO - Alaska (economy as they don't do business)
SFO-HND-SYD - (JAL)

2020 - all J
SYD-DFW (QF)
DFW- BTR (AA)
ATL-LHR-DUB (BA) Why? Because we could and it cost no more to do so
DUB-LHR-HKG (BA)
HKG-SYD (QF)

2018 - all J
SYD-HKG-FRA (CX)
AMS-LHR (BA)
LHR-SYD (QF)

All of them took some searching to find individual flights. I'm not a high status flyer so I had to take the dregs, but all flights were made with minimal connection time and we built the holiday to suit the flights. I now know CX serves the best cappuccino, BA has the worst J seating, AA serves Tom and Jerry's ice cream and QF is always a great way to end a month long holiday and makes the best bacon and egg rolls in the air.

What would I do different? Try to make Gold status to see if the grass is greener in reward flight offering; QF is very hard to get flights out of and into Australia (despite my success rate). Or find a Platinum and marry his/her daughter. But in reality I'm glad we are able to fly above our means for long haul flights.

Thank you for everyone who have responded!! Keep it coming 😍😍 and thanks for changing the title to make it clearer (and saved me from JohnM’s wrath or whatever it was 😆😆).

Cheers!

The first trip took 8 months (with a very long stopover in Paris while I went away and did other things, then came back to pick up the second half of the trip). The second trip took 5 months (with a very long stopover in Canberra, where I normally live).
Hi MattG
Thats what i am thinking of doing too, do half of the trip, come back to Perth and then pick up the rest. That would require buying a separate return ticket to/from Perth (or Canberra in your case) from where I stopover, is that right? Hope i didnt confuse you there 😅

I agree with you @smckay ! This is where i learn that all is possible. Invaluable tips and everyone’s been so great in sharing their experiences.

I wonder if Gold will make a difference? Will be interesting to know 😁

As this thread is for people to post their successful itineraries, this kind of question is best asked on the Oneworld Award discussion thread - "oneworld" award (132.4K/249.6K/318K/455K) Planning - The Definitive Thread ;)

But to answer your question, yes you can nest trips if you want to. E.g. fly to Europe using the Oneworld Award, book a paid return ticket from Europe to Perth, then pick up the rest of the Oneworld Award 6 months later to finish your trip.

You can't return to the country where you started your trip mid-ticket, then leave and return again. But you could do something like Perth-Europe-Bali-North America-Perth (i.e. buying a cheap return ticket from Bali to Perth during your long stopover in Bali).

Interesting responses. I thought there would be more people using this award to get to exotic hard to get to destinations but it looks like most itineraries tend to be trips to Europe or USA with a stopover in an Asian hub.

Not too many takers for Air Koryo on here.

So my route collapsed as I can't get a US Visa. Therefore I am unable to go TATL and TransPac. So here is my alternative:
