best way from SFO to MCO and back

I'm off to visit The Kennedy space centre with my daughter on a school trip and have managed to wangle a course in Las Vegas.
Its simpler to use the around the world business fare with oneworld to save me having to pay return west /east coast fares (2 k cheaper than syd/las return)
She's flying united with the school and i presume i'm going to be on american.
The schedules look woeful
Anyone got any better ideas?

And now JAL has joined , any comments on whether its better to come home through Japan?

Re: best way frpm sfo to MCO and back

coolumbla, I'm a little  - you mention SFO in your title but in the body of your information, you only mention a course in LAS.

If you are flying SFO/MCO on AA, then you can go through either DFW (Dallas), ORD (Chicago) or STL (St Louis). On the return leg, either via DFW again, or MIA (Miami) or LAX.

If flying LAX/MCO, then there is a direct flight or again through DFW or MIA.

As for flying back through Japan, well it'll make the trip longer (than QF direct BNE/SYD or MEL) however you'll get an AA leg to NRT and then JAL/QF (I presume) to Australia.

It seems that this thread is hidden in a little used area of AFF - I'll move it to give it the attention it deserves from experts better than me.

I recently flew syd-hkg-lax-mia-mco - I left earlier Saturday morning sydney time and got into MCO early sunday morning MCO time. It was a pretty tough trip but the jet lag eased a lot on the Sunday . The major problem was the long layover in LAX (about 8 hours) . Not sure about the Japan routing though - thinking about that for later this year :D

Things have in fact changed again so won't need to come home via Japan
Going syd/sfo/mco/lax/las
I'm in lax for less than a day "shopping" so can "backtrack".

I'm probably coming home via sri lanka provided the airport doesn't get attacked again +/_ capetown depending on if the big bosses want me to try and visit some potential recruits for essentially no extra airfare.

Now if anyone has any good ideas as to how to get las /capetown/colombo in less than 52 hours id be grateful!

FYI CX has suspended flights to CMB. SQ still flying there but with changed schedule (now in daylight). Obviously situation is fluid and changing by the day. If you have a tight schedule and flying any time soon, I'd suggest not attempting to fly via CMB - too much chance that things will change.

And who in the right mind would be planning to fly from SFO to MCO via CMB? I know some of us have taken some strange routings in the past, and none moreso than you, but that is just unimaginable

That would be home to Sydney from Las Vegas via colombo, which actually has to be Royal Jordanian if i keep flying west east now that Cathay have suspended their flights.

Not a lot of one world airlines fly there!

Why fly via Colombo?

I'm running a course there later in the year and need to check some stuff
ALso to help them set up a country wide training programme
Hence the need to go.

Well there was the time I went from NYC to SFO via BKK and AKL (and SIN twice and LAX), all in the space of a few days

next you'll be telling me there are non-stop flights between NYC and SF!
Well I could not find a suitable non-stop flight between ORD and DFW, so have to go via LAX.

By suitable, I mean something other than an MD80. So now have nice 763 locked in and since I have a full weekend to get from ORD to DFW, I can relax and enjoy the ride.

But CMB is not on my current planned DONE4 :p . But my SIL and her family are planning to go there in September.

I can tell that this is going to lead to a "who has done the most bizarre routing " thread

Naahh, I think we all know the winner of that competition  .

I thought that my day trip/overnight turnaround LHR-DXB-LHR on my upcoming DONE4 was neat - spending the time getting some peace and quiet reading the new harry potter novel (will pick it up on the way to the airport and read it on the flight - whilst being fed and watered :D) but I also though these two routings might be worth a trial in the bizarre routings but I dint thinkg they come close:

SYD-LHR becomes SYD-HKG-SIN-FRA-HEL-LHR
JFK-SYD becomes JFK-DFW-LAX-JFK-NRT-HKG-SYD

Just need to get them booked today :D

If crediting to QFF, MCT turnaround nets more SCs being a higher zone than DXB/AUH/DOH/BAH/eyc. Can also be done inside 24 hours.

Hmm - interesting. Just checking the flight schedules now. The lhr-dxb-lhr are nice as its

21:40 LHR - 07:40 DXB
09:40 DXB - 13:40 LHR

There doesnt seem to be a MCT-LHR flight on 22/7 at all  and I am not seeing a good 24 hour return trip :?:

I might continue this in my next done4 planning thread as I am just checking the final few things this morning.

As ever you are correct KF - it was my search criteria on EF - I had it that I was returning 21/7 and in fact I would be returning on 22/7. I might stick to the DXB as the flight times are a little better (I would have a full day in LON on the saturday and most of a day Sunday) and as I am crediting to AA (although thinking that by then I will be EXP so I might be crediting to QF a couple of flights LHR-JFK being one) the benefits are not great for me...

Crediting to AAdvantage I would stick with DXB too. No annoying middle of night transit whilst stay on a/c to deal with (AUH for MCT) and shorter round trip. The loss of a few miles is not a major concern.
