Just a quick one - I assume that as the LHR-DXB-LHR flight is a 777 that its clubworld rather than clubeurope?

Yup! Did this last year (with a 39 hour visit to Dubai, just about long enough).

The flight LHR-DXB can have really strong tail winds; If you wish to sleep more than an hour or two then skip the dinner service.

Reading Harry Potter book seven will be the priority rather than sleep ;)

Just wondering - as its just a trunaround - will I have to go through immigration/security at DXB and check in for my next flight?

No need to clear immigration at DXB, that airport is built for transfers :)

You may be able to get return boarding passes issued at LHR (they can do this for most destinations but not all).

Thanks for that - I will ask for BPs at LHR. I am just wondering whether I might like to go through immigration to get that stamp in the passport - or just head to the lounge and get breakfast...

I think after this trip the multiple questions will subside as I am now pretty much there in terms of understanding what I am trying to achieve and the tricks/pitfalls I need to be aware of - so I can do a lot of the research myself ;) Also - after this trip I think my DONE4's will be back to just 30K miles rather than 50 ;)

It seems that this thread is hidden in a little used area of AFF - I'll move it to give it the attention it deserves from experts better than me.
Seems that did the trick. Not sure whether all of your questions were answered before the thread was hijacked (but did like your early realisation that it might be, coolumbla).

Thanks Lindsay

My flight home keeps getting hijacked anyway so my original question is now moot

Original plan was just to do the RTW trip to save me money in the US and to keep my gold FF status
Then found something to do in Sri Lanka
Then bosses found out and "can i go and do some recruiting in South Africa?" and then they've decided that i may as well do some recruiting in London as well!

Will be coming home via LHR/ pretoria and colombo
Well thats the plan today anyway!

I've finally got what a done 4 and 5 is but WP has got me

WP is shorthand for "wanker platinum", which is the joke term for QFF Platinum status. By the sound of your trip, you should just about qualify as a WP by the end, which will certainly make your lounge issues go away :D .

duhhhhhhhh!!!!! sound of hand hitting forehead:)

Of course! its all so simple once you know what it means.

Sorry - I assumed WP was what everyone called them now - you might also get Partner Gold if you plan it right.

Doing a bit of a dummy trip :

syd-sfo-dfw-mco-lax-las-dfw-jfk-lhr-jnb-hkg-cmb-bkk-syd

Doing teh most direct routing (sort of what normal people do) though would only generate 1800 status credits - might need to tweak it a little to get Partner Gold ;)

It can take a while to pick them all up. I still can't understand all the airline and airport abbreviations ;) . I suppose you have looked at the "sticky" thread on abbreviations at the top of the thread list?

I must say that i am also a more direct route sort of guy who likes flying until i'm wondering why i agreed to go!
Platinum doesn't really add much to what i need as most of my flights are on qantas link and i don't go OS that much .
Would have been handy when i take the kids to NZ but thats on jetstar and Queenstown doesnt have a lounge!

SHane

How else do you think the guy over of Flyertalk got his handle QF WP?

Agree with your reasoning coolumbla - QF Plat wouldn't make much difference to you over QF Gold (apart from possible higher points earning). Having been to ZQN, yes you're correct.

While ZQN doesn't have a QF lounge, WPs are looked after better in NZ than SGs (eg irregular ops).

although the partner gold would be useful for "she who must' who is going to Singapore while i and the kids go skiing
That would be she who stated "why do you have this wanky thing" in reference to my associated qantas club memebership but who seems to like it when she gets to go in there.

Just be careful. My kids now think that a trip to the airport also includes a visit to the Qantas Club and associated copious quantities of softdrinks and nibbles. They expect this whether dropping me off or picking someone up from the airport. See what monsters we are creating for the next generation  . Oh well, it won't be my problem, so long as Qantas retain their current Lifetime Status levels.

qantas club at the dropoff/pickup airport???????????????????

Whats that?

Qantaslink have't go around to that yet
My trips are usually a matter of "don't wake us up as youre sneaking out eh door in the dark" and then "what?? you didn't bring Krispy Kremes?"

My other problem is that gold get one guest , i can sneak in 2 when we come back from NZ but i have 3 kids!
