Setting Status Credit Thresholds

There is a lot of talk on these forums about status credits. People seem to spend a lot of time, money and effort researching, planning and travelling in order to attain and maintain status.

So how are the status credit thresholds set? Is there some type of definitive formula?
 
That's my question. How are the numbers for these thresholds established?

They really haven't changed for many years apart from the old partner gold tier being revised upwards and the introduction of platinum one.

Who decides them is unknown but presumably there are loyalty experts in Qantas churning the stats.

Silver was changed in the last year or so, downwards. SC levels are set for what Qantas believe is the appropriate revenue level they want to see and then reward, I would imagine they have a field in their database that auto populates showing revenue this year, last year and lifetime, and they probably use an averaged $$ per SC to come to the requirements.

Had forgotten about that. And yes, I'm sure that there are detailed models used.
