Wondering if anyone would be interested in sharing information on the nearest/easiest refuelling points for hire cars near to airports.
Perth has a servo in the international terminal and a BP station just before you turn off Brearley Avenue to the domestic terminal, so really easy. Sydney however always catches me out ....

MEL has a BP on the airport grounds (next to Maccas).

ADL has one on the main road in (though annoyingly it's on the way out of the airport rather than in).

Hobart's is at the start of the final road into the airport, just after the roundabout where you turn off the highway, about 500m from the terminal area. Can't miss it.

BNE has one on the road in near the int'l terminal (you do a 180 around the roundabout and it is on the other side of the road - SHELL). Warning though, it is where all the hire car companies and airport vehicles fill up so can be a long wait.

I prefer the Caltex at Ascot (if you don't take the airport link to the airport from the CBD).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

For Sydney International theres a Mobil on West Botany St south of Marsh St (the road off the end of the M5 from the west).

That's the same thing, isn't it?

No, it's in the service centre with Meccas etc, hang a left at the Kingsford Smith memorial if on the old road, or take the international exit on the new road. The Airport Drive locale that has been there for years next to AFP is now closed.

Thanks Markis. I will be at BNE next weekend, and may have been very lost.

I have often refueled at Nundah or Ascot, around 8-10 km from the Domestic Terminal.

In MEL, I fill up at the service center on the Western Ring road.

In BNE when coming from town I fill up at the station at Albion -just past the Breaky Ck Hotel.

In SYD I have used the one indicated, also there is one at Brighton Le Sands.

It's generally ok to fill up within 10 km or so of the drop off point as long as you straight to the airport.

For MEL I turn off at Mickelham Rd and use the 7-11, its a short 3 min trip to rental return and the needle stays on F.

If I'm very cheeky, sometimes fill up at the service centre several k's back on the ring road. But if I recall correctly that is about 12 km from Tulla so pushing it if the rental company checks closely (esp. If theres ++ traffic at the airport).

Before the Ring Road service center opened, I would use the "Todd Road" center (I live in a SE bayside suburb).

From my experience (mostly with Hertz and Avis) as long as the fuel gauge indicates the tank is full and the petrol station receipt is kept, the car could be refuelled in Patagonia, no one cares.
I had occasions where I put petrol in Cleveland QLD or Liverpool NSW and returned the car to airport with no issues at all. Sometimes if I have an early flight on the next day, I refuel the day before so I can drive straight to the airport in the morning.
Off course it also depends on the car. If it's a 4WD petrol, large SUV or a sport car for example then probably better refuelling closer to the airport.
In general, time, date and location of refuelling are not important as long as the amount on the receipt is reasonable.

Not my experience, last month I refuelled at East Brisbane before hopping on the Clem to BNE, its 12km from BNE. On arrival at the airport I was asked to see the receipt by the Hertz check in lady and she said I was outside the 10km, I pointed out I had put in considerably more fuel than should have been used for my rental so was still returning it fuller than when I collected it.

I generally try and avoid to fill up at Servo's near airports because they always charge more than every where else.

For ADL extremely close to the returns area on Sir Richard Williams Ave

I've noticed the ADL on airport servo is regularly cheaper than off airport servos, based on advertised price.

It is quite OK to fill up the car within 8-10 km from drop off. If uncertain add an extra litre.

I find the one in MEL always busy.
