Servos near to airports - Returning a rental car

It is quite OK to fill up the car within 8-10 km from drop off. If uncertain add an extra litre.

I had the experience last year of being charged for only having a 7/8 full tank by a major rental company at BNE. I filled the car at Nundah, 9 kilometres from Domestic Terminal, to get Qantas ff points from the Caltex Woolworths on Sandgate Road. I even topped it up to the next dollar. I did not know about it until I received the receipt by email.

A polite email stating the facts and reminding the company that I am a preferred card holder and a frequent customer saw the charge quickly reversed.

I wonder if someone is pocketing the money?

The past couple of years the rentals from Hertz mainly and Avis are not filled up properly when I pick them up. Sometimes I have driven 5-10kms and the fuel gauge has gone down a notch.

It is a battle trying to keep up and chase them up. One time it cost me ~20-30 minutes when I dropped the car off.

Ha! Try renting on a corparate CDP -sadly some think it's open slather with fuel top ups ...

I have not named the company because they were very prompt in refunding the money with no questions, and I continue to be a customer.

I have never kept a close watch on the fuel gauge after I collect a car. I am collecting from BNE on Friday, and will look closely. I will also fill up at Nundah to collect my EDR FF points, not at the new Airport Service Centre.

Quite often a try on. I also take a photo of the kms and fuel levels on arrival and departure

Still on theme.....
Gold Coast (OOL), right out front.
Proserpine (PPP), about 5km out of Proserpine and you'll need to fill up at Proserpine.
Mackay (MKY), Bruce Hwy are easiest, choice of 2 on Peak Downs Hwy intersection.
Rockhampton (ROK), choice of 3 or 4 on Bruce Hwy south of the main right turn near the airport turnoff (cheapest is generally the second one in from the big roundabout south of town).
Gladstone (GLT), Cnr of Dawson Hwy and Aerodrome Rd
Cairns (CNS), from the north, on the left just after the Barron River bridge, from the south, a couple of blocks south of the airport turnoff on Sheridan St.

Thanks Markis. Refilled the rental car at the new BNE Service Centre this evening. Much easier to access than the old Shell at International.

The old one is about to disappear.

In Alice Springs the nearest servo to the airport is approx 13kms away. So to save fuel on way to airport, slip stream behind a road train??
