I have travel insurance on my plat cards, but because I went on a working holiday which was for 7 months, I got a seperate travel insurance. Just filling out forms now. To my surprise, they now ask if you paid on credit card, and if so was it a gold or platinum, and if their travel policies cover it and to subtract difference you are claiming from these guys.

Wow, try to get you at every cent!

Then it asked about private and home contents insurance. I didn't think private here covered overseas!

Oh well they gotta ask eh !!!

I'm not sure that I really understand what your issue is, but it sounds a bit like you are trying to claim for the one mishap from two different insurers. I don't think you should be surprised if they put obstacles in the way to prevent you doing that.
But your post raises a question in my mind: My regular Qantas agent tells me that travel insurance which comes "free" with a platinum credit card is useless and always advises me to take out a separate travel insurance policy. Even buying an annual policy, this does not come cheaply.
Do any experienced travellers rely solely on the insurance which comes with their credit card? Have you had problems with claims? Does the fine print always defeat you?

No real issue, just surprised at the obstacles (which is a good word).

I have insurance on both amex and visa plat, but I've never used them. I always take out a seperate one. I've never made a claim in a few years, so I guess this is why I am surprised to see it.

Have heard people have used their credit card insurance OK, but never tried it. I will use it for my next trip (2 weeks) to see how that works.

Thanks, Alanslegal. Some excellent advise on the link you provide, especially by yourself and Serfty.
I would still like to hear from anyone who has relied solely on the credit card travel insurance and has come to regret it. Or alternatively, those have been satisfied with it.

See the following thread for post of mine relating to a claim I have to make last year:

In the end $200 was credited to my Amex account.
