Sending parcel to UK

Fathers Day is slowing down mail deliveries considerably.
Data isn’t showing that though. Father’s Day will have some impact but the biggest increase has been in Women’s apparel, jewellery, accessories and has been well over the YTD averages for months. The restrictions in Victoria are causing the most drama as it massively affects processing speed and by time you lose several days sending it to and from Adelaide and Sydney to be be processed and sorted it drags ETA’s out by a week at least

A parcel from the UK; door to door in 7 days.

Singapore to here, 14 days.

Sydney to Wodonga, 21 days.

This is reminiscent of a book I once read, in which it was eventually worked out that shipping speed is inversely proportional to the distance send. The test is to mail a card to the Galactic Government...you'll get acknowledgement within moments.

I rec’d a letter from the PO telling to allow for delays due to Fathers Day.

Not sure if domestic delays would impact outbound international. Reveived a different email from Auspost yesterday about "delays have returned" which comments

Over the last three weeks, Australia Post has experienced a significant increase in demand as Victorians have increased their online buying due to stage 4 lockdowns. At the same time, our business has been required to make additional adjustments in our processing and deliveries workforce to comply with the State Government's COVID Safe restrictions.

I posted some papers using Aust Post International Registered Post on June 23rd.

It took Australia Post 6 days to get it from Randwick to their Airport location.
Then on to a plane on July 4th.

The mail bag it was in still has not been scanned as received by USPS in the US. Last time I checked Aust Post was waiting for mail bags from early June to still be scanned as received by USPS. An improvement from 2 weeks before that where the last scanned was late May.

So, perhaps what is happening is that they are acting like an airline with a backlog. Process current flights as is & then allocate waiting passengers (parcels) as capacity opens up.

So tried sending duplicates using FedEx - delays in FedEx processing new accounts. Cannot just send one item by turning up to a depot - must have an account even if 1 time use...

I haven’t seen that letter but if so it is poorly worded as the backlog is enormous and not from Fathers Day. The delays have been getting worse for weeks due to Victorian Covid restrictions and people should allow an extra 2-3 days if they want parcels to arrive in time for Father’s Day.

As that was not a quote from the letter I don’t know how it can be poorly worded.
The fact that apparel, dresses, and accessories etc have been what people have been buying is irrelevant as those presumably are not being bought for most fathers. :)

I just think it probably should have read differently. The delays will affect delivery for Father’s Day but the delays aren’t because of Father’s Day if you know what I mean. Just a perfect storm but hopefully as Victorian restrictions ease things will start to return to normal but for the time being Sydney and Adelaide will have to crack in harder

That sounds like the email I received, except that the first three paras were about the delays being due to increased demand, covid restrictions, Melbourne lockdown, etc, as a lead in to mentioning ‘send by’ dates for Fathers day.

The border restrictions have nobbled my chances of delivering fathers day present in person, so I added to the parcel backlog today. Bought myself an online present too. :)

On the 18th August I received notification that a book I had ordered from the Book Depository had been dispatched from the UK. Their internal system showed that it had been posted on 17th August. It arrived here this afternoon 27th August. Delivery in 10 days is actually faster than normal for these books.

I was posted an express international pouch from Perth on the 6th of August and arrived to me in the UK on the 25th.

Another package coming from NSW was posted on the 3rd which hasn't arrived yet and the last Auspost update is from the 11th 'Cleared by air carrier' no updates since.

Both parcels have had multiple entries which state cleared and awaiting international departure which I interpret as once a plane going in the right direction has non-priority load capacity then it'll go.

I'd allow for at a minimum of 3 weeks from postage. If you're in a hurry then DHL or TNT are the way to go which will take 5-7 days. You can book with DHL online but be prepared to pay over $100. As a reference the international express pouch I received cost $47 to ship

I often find with DHL though you're more likely to get hit with an additional customs charge on top.

With daughter and husband in the UK I’ve been sending regular care packages - the last one waited at Melbourne airport for a month before it was actually sent! APost tracker kept telling me where it was. All up it was at least six weeks door to door.

I found that was the case in April/May, but seems better now. I posted something to an AFFer 2 weeks ago and as I've not heard from them, I'm assuming it hasn't landed in Australia yet (from the UK).

Sadly Fruchocs are only SA based and impossible to buy in the UK. I will check out DHL 🤞

Agree, not available on the usual suspect.
OZ Chocolate Bars & Bags - Australian Chocolate Bars & Bags - Chocolate Bars & Bags from Australia

Very expensive postage here, so likely coming in from abroad anyway.
