Seeking advice/help for return flight Sydney/Athens in about a week

Hello all, I'm not near enough a frequent flyer to hob knob in the points area but I've flown to Europe and India more times than I have kept count of.

Normally it's the whole family flying. This time it's just my wife, to see her dad who is getting very old and who lives in Athens, Greece.

She has flown there all her life and Singapore Airlines used to be the default setting. Sadly they have now reduced the Singapore/Athens leg to Scoot status, although I was once told they do still do an SIA flight once a week. My initial inquiries on the SIA site resulted in cold sweats as the cost appears to be 3x that of Etihad or Emirates or Qantas (Emirates).

So, travel wizards, I could use your help.

  • Is there a flight using SIA to Athens?
  • If I book SIA/Scoot is the price really so much more than others?
  • What do you recommend? I can fwd a gratuity on the genius booking idea via PayPal or Transferwise or whichever suits.

We've flown with SIA, Emirates a time or two and the others with Etihad. In an ideal world Singapore Airlines. However, I'm seeking your expert advice so I'm open to your thoughts.
  • One passenger (my wife).
  • Economy (exit row seat +$ if possible).
  • I have FF for her with Etihad (some points here, maybe 2600),
  • Emirates (0 points),
  • Qantas - I have their card (0) and
  • SIA (not sure I can log in here, been a long time) and entry-level status on all of them.
  • Flying in approx a week and staying about 14 days (Approx 19th August, returning approx 2nd Sept).
  • Important: Arriving in Athens and Departing Athens need to be at reasonable times so as not to tax her dad with a 1AM arrival etc).

Please let me know if I've missed important details.

Thank you for any and all advice and apologies I'm such a neoflight
(see what I did there?)

I flew Qatar ecomomy in May and August ..long haul. IMO they are Just fine in economy.
Boarding went smoothly, great entertainment system, an OK level of comfort... No economy seat is going to be wonderful for the longest stretch Oz to Doha, food and beverage OK to good..seems to fluctuate.

  • Is there a flight using SIA to Athens?

I flew back from Athens in J, for 2 pax, on a Star Alliance Award booked via Krisflyer.

Athens to Istanbul was on Turkish Airlines, then SQ to SIN, and SQ to MEL.

Flight left about 10.30 AM.
