Security breach at Melbourne International Terminal today. Everyone cleared from the terminal and rescreened. Terminal is still not clear and rescreened pax are being held in the customs hall.

Doesn't seem to have hit the news yet.

Worst of all my express card counts for nought.....oh the inhumanity!!!!

It's been mentioned on 3aw several times.

Apparently pax from an incoming flight were directed through the wrong door and given access to the departure area.

dtkwya ??????

Precisely.

horror of horrors I was only the second person back in the F Lounge.

To be fair the whole process was handled very professionally from the bit that I saw, although I was one of the early ones out and back. I suspect there will be a lot of frustrated pax at the back of the queue.

Hope the idiot who directed the pax as such gets the serving that they deserve. What a ridiculous waste of time.

mmmm perhaps. I do however get to have a serve of F Lounge chips and a rather pleasant Sauvignon Blanc. So that is an unexpected bonus.:p

It was a cough up and cough ups happen.

From looking at the arrivals, it seems to be an issue with an NZ flight or SQ.

I think the NZ flight was mentioned from one of the pax involved.

I imagine the person who made the stuff up is feeling pretty sheepish about now.

Wouldn't surprise me, due to them having a new ground handler with high attrition rates.

Although by saying that, the gates are a very poor design and MEL airport have had issues before.

I can confirm that passengers on NZ123 from Auckland were disembarked at an arrivals gate. I know this as I was on the flight. We were all called back to the air bridge while doors were rearranged. Very little delay for us but there were already airport staff at our gate trying to find out "who was responsible" as we were being shepherded back into the air bridge.

Herald Sun would like to know. Who's willing to call them?

A SECURITY breach has forced the evacuation of the international departure lounge at Melbourne Airport. About 2000 passengers were told they had to go through security screening again after the incident.
A Melbourne Airport spokeswoman said it was a “minor security breach” but would not elaborate further.
“We do not comment on the detail of security breaches,” she said. “But I can say that there is nothing to be concerned about.

“All passengers are being re-screened as per standard security procedure.”
She said some flights would be delayed following the breach

so I wonder what happens to those departing passengers who has already purchased LAGs duty-free airside? Do they lose their booty? That could turn out quite nasty for some passengers.

I don't really understand this sort of thing. Those pax would have all been screened before getting on the plane. Why are they suddenly a security risk?

Has to be some sort of local procedure. In many airports overseas departing and arriving pax are intermingled.

It was infact Air New Zealand's new ground handling agent Toll and it also happened last week.
I understand the operation of serving NZ is new, but Toll have many other accounts they handle
and this shouldn't happen.

Basically - a mix of temporary stupidity coupled with a lot of a%#e covering......

Sarcasm on - because the passengers whom arrived from Auckland whom got through all the security procedures in Auckland are deemed to be non-sterile and are suddenly an unacceptable risk because they are arriving in MEL - sarcasm off.

As my late uncle said: The Herald Sun is for those who cannot read and the Age is for those who cannot think :!:

I'm afraid he got it wrong. Harking back to the days when The Herald and The Sun were separate publications it went something like this:
The Age is for people who can think, The Herald is for people who can't think but can read, and The Sun is for those who can't read!
Or something like that. :p

IMO the buck can't simply be passed to a ground handler, seriously - the fault has to lie with Customs and Border Protection.

The ground handler may have misaligned the aerobridge mechanisms/distribution channels (assuming that this is what happened) so as to funnel arriving passengers onto the departures level, but surely it is CBP's responsibility to oversee and ensure that incoming passengers will be funnelled correctly through to processing, and that some "newbie teenage ground handling aerobridge operator" hasn't potentially stuffed things up, prior to allowing anyone to disembark?
