How do you expect people at the "passport office" to do their job if they can't access the details of people?

As a Segway to this thread. I experienced a couple of times in a row having my (NZ) passport taken away ( into a closed room and made to wait for 5-10 minutes) by customs / immigration when departing BNE to AKL.
I was never advised why and never asked any further questions. Then they stopped doing it ......... Not sure if I was on any list though !!

At work (major telco) there are people's names that are flagged. Also certain copper pairs are flagged, so if someone is doing a fault check on that line, they can still get a call saying "what the hell are you doing?"
