Background to this thread:

In a similar vein to the "Flight Availability / Upgrade Probability Help Desk" there has an increase in the posting of questions about specific seat allocation/availability on a flight. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with such queries. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.

This new consolidated thread is where you can ask questions about seating allocation/availability. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve usability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread:

Please post questions about availability of specific seats in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, Origin, Destination, date and cabin as applicable.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Hi All,
I'm flying from SIN-HKG next month on Jetstar and wondered if anyone knew if 1F on the A320 has a bulkhead in front or merely the door intruding into the legroom.
I don't have a lot of choice on the outbound leg but on the way back if there's a better option (extra legroom seat that is) I'd appreciate hearing about it.
Regards,
Peter
1F is on the starboard side, and there's a galley in front of it so there will definitely be a bulkhead there. On 1A/B/C, it depends on the plane you get. Some have a bulkhead between you and the door, while some doesn't have it where you get unlimited leg room and also the chance of tripping everyone trying to board after you.

Hi All,
Flying Cairns Hong Kong on Cathay (CX146). My query relates to seating in Business. Seatguru says the seats are 45 inch pitch recliners and Seatexpert says 60 inch pitch with 171° recline. Does anyone know which is correct?

I'd like to make a similar request re CX to Adelaide. Is it possible for someone to check if CX105 on a Friday is the new configuration (and hence flat seats) in J? On CX site I can book PE on that flight which suggests it is, but on the Classic Award site on Qantas I can't. Many thanks!

What date is your flight?

Expert flyer is showing new J cabin. FWIW the old J cabin (herringbone style) is also lie flat seat.

Is it? I guess it must be other issues people were complaining about it then. The new configuration certainly looks nice and roomy.
Thanks for checking. :)

The Herringbone setups are also called the "coffin" flat but a disaster of a layout......

Coffin.....

New J cabin.......is brilliant and IMO exceeds the hard product F offering on many other airlines.

After some advice on the 380 configuration for a family of 5. I normally fly Premium Economy so am not sure, as silly as it seems, what is the best option.

Two adults and three kids (under 10) flying from MEL - LHR next year (June) and returning in July back to MEL. All seats are open and available to me so the choice is almost too much (!).

My decision is whether these under seat foot nets are actually good enough to warrant using them versus the option of having the entire row 35 on the upper deck (35 D/E/F/J and K). It's obviously got the better leg room and one storage bin for the window seat, but I would be grateful for any guidance for anyone else that has traveled with kids in these seats - or indeed any other seats.

The company paid for my seat and the other 4 seats were booked on Classic Awards so it's two separate bookings - so I have to reserve all the seats over the phone as I cannot select them for all of us - just me. So when I do it I want to get it right.

Any advise most appreciated... Thanks

I would go upper deck & I'm sure the kids given the choice would be happy with that, however you would have to opt for 36DEFJK as row 35 is an exit row & as none of your kids are 15 or over you wouldn't be eligible to sit there. Another option upper deck in whY might be 32EFGJK but it's highly likely there would be another pax in 32D unlike row 36 where there's only 3 centre seats.

I haven't travelled in whY upper deck on the A380 but others here on AFF might be able to comment on the legroom in row 32.

I've flown in whY in 86H LAX/SYD on the A380 last November but despite being on the main deck it did not have the foot nets however I did find the space from the bottom of the seat in front of you to the floor is a little more generous than the 744 which I've flown in whY SYD/DFW.

Regarding the number of different QF A330-200 domestic configurations, are the advance seat maps all coming up as the international configuration?

Does anyone know how far out they change them to the intended configuration that they will be using?

Qantas equipment scheduling is done up to a year out, being firmed at around T-120 days.

I believe they generally try not to change them once firmed.

hi all,

not sure if i should be asking this in this thread or the flight availability/loadings thread...

i've recently purchased a subscription to EF, and have an upcoming flight where there are xx_'s on every second row of the seat map indicating "blocked" - is this qantas blocking seats for those who have purchased the fare through OW partners? or is it likely to be distribution of weight type scenario? (the economy fare types are showing as 9 across the board (well classes Q & X anyway).

trying to work out my chances of getting a spare seat next to me.

thanks!

Generally it is as you surmised - weight type issues ... and I suspect your chances of a spare seat beside you are reasonable.

We will be back in Oz around Easter next year (2014), and need to go to Melbourne and Brisbane. Qantas had cheap e-deals for $89 between SYD and MEL / BNE, so we bought tickets for our trips. Hubby is Plat. We tried to select seats for 737 planes, and rows 4 & 5 were greyed out. Having read threads in the forum about seat selections, my understanding is that rows 4 & 5 may be open around T-80 and we may be able to select them. However, I don't want to be at the back of the plane, so should I select seats in row 6 now and hope to change them to row 4 closer to travel dates? Also, the exit row seats were available when we tried to do seat selection, if we select these do we have to pay extra for them? Or, does Plat get them for free? (if this sounds like a silly question, apology!)

Thanks!

I'd go for 6 then move forward (or try) at T-80. Try selecting the exit rows and see if it offers a charge. I think it may only do it for international?

Thanks, Flashback! - for the quick reply. :)

Yes, very sensible suggestion.
