Seating Allocation - Less Y seats

I'm about to fly out on QF31 (Monday) to London and currently I'm showing seat 37G. Originially this was a Y seat but now shows as Premium economy seat. I'm sure Qantas will not just put people in premium class because the plane config has changed so does this mean most likely all will be shifted back (what happens to people at the back?:()

OK I'm guessing F1 = First Class. So what is A1?
 
A = discount first class - generally lower availability. Used for all sorts of products in including the AONEx rtw in F - would love to get one of those...

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't think you will be flying Y+.

From what I can see, Qantas do not offer Y+ on your flight.

Notice the absence of W and T fare buckets on your flight? They are Y+.

There is a slight chance the aircraft you are on has Y+ installed but they're not selling it yet. If this is the case (albeit very unlikely) you won't get Y+ service.

My post was based fully on the assumption that the operating 744 was to be a 4 class version sold a three.

This was inferred from the OP.

It would be nice to get a seat map to check this, however, the flight is so 'sold' that QF are restricting access to E/F.

If indeed it is 4 class sold as 3 then this seap map applies: Qantas 4 Class 744

Otherwise, if it's just your standard 3 class 744 then this applies: Qantas 3 class 744 Kangaroo route

I used ExpertFlyer.com - Empowering the Frequent Flyer for which I have an annual USD99 paid subscription.

SeatCounter - The Booking Class Availability Machine is free and shows the following:

I wonder what Qantas would do if Y was fully sold out but Y+ had capacity - would they sell Y+ as Y fares and hope for some no-shows in Y?
 
Absolutely; the closer it get to the flight the more likely Qantas are to see any seat as saleable.

When flights get very full like this Qantas will sell many of the higher class seats for WHY fares; deciding on the day (and at the gate if necessary) who to give them to (generally those with Status).

However, in this case it's slightly different (assuming a 4 class has been substituted). The OP is showing as SG and indeed has been preallocated 37G. For a 3 class, this seats is in the area of WHY reserved for status PAX. With the mentioned substitution Qantas would have reallocated those in this area (B and J seats in rows 34-37 and entire rows 38-41 would no longer be present). The OP would have been left where they originally were allocated.

Hi ludoh,

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news (again), but QF31 on Monday the 14th is scheduled to be operated by a regular Kangaroo configured 747-400 (14F/50J/315Y) that does not feature the Premium Economy product. If you want to PM me, I can explain further (if necessary).

I cannot see Qantas operating a Premium Economy equipped 747-400 on QF31 and operating the W cabin as Economy (unless there were special circumstances). Y+ was made available for sale on QF31 for travel after 01APR although it appears it is not offered every day - in which case a regular Kangaroo configured 747-400 will operate the service (like today, Friday the 11th for instance).
