Well my girlfriend and I are off to Mexico in two weeks for a friends wedding,

We purchased our tickets and done our ESTA's,

however when we attempt to select and save our seats for the departure and return flights, they are not being allocated to us.

The manage booking page, still tells us to select seats.

What is going on here and how can we get allocated ideal seats in economy?

One option is to call and ask for seats to be allocated by call centre.

Isnt that like $30 bucks?
If you can do it for free on website they shouldn't charge you over the phone if you explain the issue. If you're not entitled to complimentary seat selection that's a different story.

Hi PepsiMax,

I'm sure there used to be a percentage (75%?) of seats available to pre-select, once this threshold was reached then you had to wait until online check-in opened. With only two weeks to go, it could be that the threshold has been reached.

I'd take JonhK's advice and call (reiterate that you tried but can't do this online).

Good Luck and let us know how you get on.

Regards,

BD

I am fairly sure that would revert back to the window/aisle selection when that was the case.

Did you purchase seats online directly from the airline or via a Travel agent?

Maybe there are not 2 seats together available?

flight details may slightly help us to look in EF to see how the specific flights look

or just call QF and ask :)

Yes, flight details required before any meaningful advice can be given - OP hasn't even indicated which airlines he's flying with.

It is posted in the QFF area so that is a hint as well as the $30 fee.

Thinking about it, my assumption is that the OP selects the seats, gets through to the payment stage and doesn't want to pay the seat selection fee. This is why the previous selections won't stick.

So got in contact with Qantas yesterday,

quite strange the lovely lady was helping me and then she referred me on to American Airlines to complete the seat selection process.

However the booking is a QFxx_ numbered flight and comes up in my QFF account to manage. Still no resolution :S

What flight numbers are you on? This will help the members on here provide a response.

What is the freq flyer tier status of you or your gf?

On QF international flights only ff silver and above can pre-allocate seats for free. If you are bronze or not QF ff members you won't be able to do it free until 24 hours prior when QF OLCI opens.

As for QF codeshares operated by AA, the option to pre-allocate seats on the AA site will be greyed out so you'd need to wait until AA checkin opens.

If you do OLCI with QF it's possible that it'll also check you in on the AA flight. If you haven't got seats together ask the QF CSA at your point of departure if they can have a look for any other options.

that's not actually true now.

Qantas implemented some months ago that ANYONE on economy saver or flex international fares could do seat selection for free. If a sale fare then no, the above applies.

I booked a QF flight number on AA metal. I used the AA booking ref no. on the itinerary and selected my seat on AA website. The flight is still 3 weeks away.

I wonder if that's now changed which is a good thing?

I was helping a friend do her seating LAX/ORD/BMI and the LAX/ORD QF codeshare flight on AA metal and the seat selection button was greyed out when trying to do seat selection on the AA site.

If a booking involves QF primes, QF*AA codeshares and AA primes, there should be 1 QF reloc and 2 AA relocs (one for the QF*AA's and one for the AA primes). You'll need both AA relocs if this applies to this situation.

Beware, Altea will also spit the dummy most of the time when tagging for a trip such as SYD QF LAX QF*AA ORD AA BMI ... manual tag construction is required otherwise it'll only give you a tag for SYD/ORD. Sabre also exhibits the same behaviour if you were to attempt the LAX QF*AA ORD AA BMI, at LAX, again requiring manual tag construction.
