Friends,

Up to yesterday, there was no issue with seat selection for my upcoming QF-numbered EK flight (SYD-AMS return in J).

I could (and did) select / change my seats on a few occasions.

Today, that option is no longer available.

Weird ?

I am not sure of any possible reason.

? 4-weeks out from departure
? EK decision to lock out QF customers

Do you know of anything there ?

This seems to fly in the face of QF's policy on seat selection as we know.

However, re-reading the policy today, it appears Advanced Seat Selection (ASL) is only available on selected flights

".... Advance Seat Selection is available only on Qantas international flights QF1 - 199 and Qantas domestic flights QF400 - 1349 (excluding QantasLink services)..."

If this is now true - as it is apparently - that will remove any incentive for me to fly QF-numbered EK metal in J / F.

It appears status means naught here as well (I'm SG).

Could you shed a light here ?

Thanks

EDIT:

I just went into EK's MMB using EK-generated booking reference number.

Voila !

I could select / change seats from within EK systems.

This is rather poor QF IT systems, forcing its customers to go into their partner (i.e. competitor)'s website to modify a QF booking.

The QF IT guys must be EK deep cover agents

I've had seating allocation show up on the QF site for a AA flight before, selected a seat and it said it was all good but that never made it to AA (checked a few days later), ended up selecting over on AA instead. Suspect there's probably issues with it still.

I always go to the operating airline's website for seat selection - tends to work every time.

Yes, sure. I heard you.

But it (the ASL) was available up until yesterday.

Booking was made in mid-Feb 2013.

So, why was the sudden switch-off ?

I always book my seats on the operating carriers website, in this case I reckon there might still be some IT issues that need to be ironed out before Mar 31

Update

It is now operational again on QF MMB.

Computer glitch - not a policy change

Thanks QF
