Seat selection limitations

Final update:

got up to seat 6C in seat selection, then finally into first row of economy in 4E with OLCI. Was a middle seat, but flight was FULL. Front row is pretty good with way more leg room.

Was offered an exit row in row 14 in QP, but decided that first row was better. Was in train station before J class even got to see their bags...

On return journey, was in seat 7C, which was second row of Y. Much quieter flight with no one next to me, and only 5 people in J out of 20 seats.

I wonder if the Platinums in 4D and 4F are happy with your decision to sit in 4E. :p

On a full flight they didn't have much choice on what to think, I would guess. I also know it'll be a bad flight if I'm offered 4E early as a gold. But on tomorrows flight I got 4F already so hopefully there is an empty 4E.

I was in 5E on my last flight, but then 6B/C weren’t occupied despite the plane being chockers, so my seat mate in 5D moved to 6C and I moved to 5D, was great :)

+1 (I've given up on the QF lottery op-ups personally)

Although a friend of mine who is a WP also, has had great success this year. He's had around 10 l think. Not bad, if you can get it.

From full whY to J.He just asks at the check-in counter and gets it, unbelievable.

It's been a long time since I had an operational upgrade, but almost all of mine used to be when I travelled during school holidays on full whY. Seems economy is often oversold during these periods and J class is empty.

I've also never been upgraded when asking for one.

Cheers,

JOBU

Stuser,

I see you have changed from 'Shiny Shiny Gold' to 'Not So Shiny Gold'

my gold is not so shiny as platinum but it is shinier than tarnished bronze.

On the seat map thing occasionally they are wrong, it shows no 8F on the PX757, in fact it is 6F that isn't there. Mind you, being able to select seats on a code share is a pretty neat trick in itself...

Cheers skip

As I mentioned, flight was full. Couldn't see a spare seat in Y.
BUT if your precious WPs don't want to sit next to someone on this 40 minute flight, then they could always choose J, which was 75% empty...
;)

Platinums in 4D and 4F should be used to it happening by now.
I almost expect that someone will be sitting in the middle seat next to me everytime. :-|

I was referring to other Platinums that expect to have a spare seat next to them on every flight. ;)

In the front rows, sounds pretty hopeful. No doubt some would expect that on a packed flight.

As I only have a not so shiny gold card, I don't have such aspirations. I have rear of cabin in my preference for domestic flights and an excellent strike rate for empty seats adjacent. I can also exit the cabin at leisure after the hysterical rush for the exits has subsided. I figure if I'm going to sit and read the paper or whatever for 90 minutes, I might as well do so for 97 minutes.

Cheers skip.

I’d love to have those preferences one day, but I’m still all about the front. Maybe in a few years I’ll have a go at not caring so much down the back :)

Interestingly, I just checked again to see if I could score a better seat for my BNE-MEL tomorrow morning. As a PS, I could only select row 20 and back (on a 737). 4A was open for me this morning, surprisingly - I thought they'd keep a few rows open for the shinier people?

I’m not sure the exact time frame, but after preselection, maybe at T-24 when you can actually checkin, everything becomes available, and it’s a rush to move up… if you can ;)

Don't knock the back of the bus. Where there are no air bridges, eg OOL and I cannot get 1D/F, I always go for the back and exit via the rear stairs. In the car and on my way while rows 5++ are still on the aircraft.

Possibly - but I don't remember that happening before ... but then again, I haven't flown QF much since getting my slightly shiny PS card!

It was probably T-20 hours. I guess sunday morning isn't exactly peak time :D

That’s how I get myself into 4D so consistently. Checking, rechecking, checking again…

Chances are that he may have already got the op up due to the WP status anyway. I know people say "if you don't ask you don't get" but I think he'd already got. I don't think it's merely a case of "ask and you shall receive". Your friend doesn't seem shy when it comes to sharing tales of his exploits but he might be using a bit of poetic licence here 'n' there by the sound of it.

I'd say maybe a couple who had preallocated 6BC at minus 80 were noshows so the seat edits wouldn't cancel until minus 15 when they close and finalise the flight when of course everyone else travelling on that flight already has their final seating.

Maybe the shinier people used their points to upgrade on the day 3 hours prior to flight departure in the QP. Either that or they were able to flow forward on to other QF flights particularly if their original one was oversold whereby flight changes not normally permitted would be allowed in this instance to help clear the oversale.

In any case I'm not complaining - not that I really need to get off the plane quickly given my 5 hour wait at MEL QP for my connecting flight :D

Maybe I should spend some time with my face mushed up against the F lounge glass in awe

I noticed that TT, bless their little hearts:p, charge marginally more for the last row.
