Seat selection at T-80

really dumb question here, but if you have chosen a seat previously, but then have a look at other available seats at t-80 and there is nothing better on offer - do most people press skip or next on the buttons below. Just don't want to be in a situation where you may forfeit your original selected seat (although doubt this would happen anyway).

If there's another flight I need to select, then it's skip or next, but am a bit pedantic, so do click back and exit out of the system 'properly' :p

Was using it this morning, and was worried i was going to lose my 70A :)

I doubt it would change it either way. The only time it may make a difference is if you have an international segment where you have been pre-assigned an exit row. Clicking next from there gets you to a page where it wants you to pay for your exit row assignment

Sometimes when doing seat selection a segment where you have previously allocated a seat comes up with some issue and you can only select aisle or window.

Of you don't either back out or use the "skip" option, you can lose the original seat allocation.

Some of my bookings are very flaky at times so I press skip unless I have made changes that I want to try and save.

There have been times where I have pressed next and the only thing I could change was the preference of aisle or window.

Has there been a recent change to seat selection at T-80? Flying on Wednesday MEL-BNE at 0705 (QF604) and as a WP can't see row 4 or 5 - normally I would expect to. Expert Flyer shows all seats (except for 4C) are blocked, and the QF Seat selection is the same. I'll try again later, but will be most upset if Row 4 eludes me!!

Maybe there is a group of WP1s travelling that flight? Or a WP1 with more than one person on the booking has taken row four?

- Platinum One is the old Platinum with a few extra frills and very hard to obtain
- Platinum is almost identical to Gold

Disagree. I noticed a big jump when I went from gold to platinum - the better food in the lounges (particularly at breakfast time), the seat selection, the cabin bonus points (when not flying for work as I don't get points on work flights) and even the level of service - being called by Qantas with offers of assistance when my flights have been cancelled for example didn't happen at gold and does at platinum. And the international first lounges alone are a huge difference.

Not to mention the ability to call the platinum desk and have them open up extra classic reward seats for you - thanks to which I am unexpectedly off to the US next week with only two weeks' notice, in PE.

Pretty sure the comment you quoted referred to seat selection options. But in any case the comment is about relativity for levels. The fact that you've noticed an improvement when going from gold to platinum doesn't diminish someone else experience that platinum now gets equivalent to what gold got in the past.

Very glad that you get phone calls as a platinum when things go wrong. This platinum has never had such a phone call.

The comment I was responding to seemed more general to me than just about seat selection.

but I agree that my experience doesn't diminish anyone else's experience - I was just disagreeing that there's no difference between gold and platinum, because my experience is that there was a big jump.

interesting that others don't get necessarily get phone calls when things go wrong - my experience over the last 12 months or so is that they call me every time.

I just thought it was commenting more about the benefits given for platinum rather than saying there isn't a difference between gold and platinum. That difference is certainly there.

Perhaps you're much more valuable than some of us, and hence get the calls. My most recent experience was the My Flights App telling me my booking had changed. Open it to find a flight cancelled and another one subbed in it's place. A change made with no consultation that doesn't suit me. anyway c'est la vie.

yep same experience with me.

as a WP i can usually go to row 4 at T80.

but for my Tuesday's flight i can only select row 5, and entire row 4 is still blocked until just under 48 hours.

the fight is BNE-ADL.

they must have made change.

There could easily be WP1 or CL people that have been pre allocated a seat or two in the first row and their shadows.

I'm still seeing usual patterns of seat avails so no change for me.

A seat in Row 4 now available :). T-48 maybe?? But Expert Flyer showed it as blocked (I have my QFF number in Preferences), and after moving, my previous seat (6A) is now showing as blocked. Hopefully 4B remains blocked now...

I selected row 4 last night at T-80 for Mel-Bne on Thursday. Maybe there are just higher status people than you already in row 4?

Expert flyer simply show what the GDS return.

Until Altea and notional seats takes over it's generally accurate. After T-80 (or whenever) it's not so accurate as far as seat blocking goes - (being an 'average' representation I assume).

Somtime your PCV may be higher than that returned by E/F, sometimes lower ...

My comment was a general comment.

There is not a lot of difference between Gold and Platinum. It depends on what is important to you.

- Food in both lounges is fairly ordinary (apologies if I have been spoilt but I do not class any of the food in the domestic lounges gourmet)
- Gold gets 75% status bonus and Platinum 100% status bonus (it takes a lot more effort to get to Platinum than it does to Gold)
- Domestic flights Rows 23-24 on 767s and rows 4-5 on 737s open up to Gold the same time as Platinum
- The international first lounge worthy of that status is SYD First Lounge. There is nothing special about the First lounges in HKG and/or BKK and SIN when they had one.
- No one has ever called me about changing flights unless they had to call everyone as the flight was cancelled

Again it depends on what is important to you.

Take note with the next round of enhancements Gold and Platinum are going to get closer together....

expert flyer showed that entire row 4 was blocked but not selected.
