Seeking advice for seat selection for the following confirmed redemptions for the wee wife and I:

1. SQ288 CBR - SIN in J, 777-300ER with 2013 J seat/config
2. SQ856 SIN - HKG in J, A380-800 with 2017 J seat/config
3. SQ001HKG - SIN in F, 777-300ER with 2013 F seat/config
4. SQ231 SIN - SYD in SIN F, A380-800 with 2006 R suites seat/config

I've had a stab at identifying likely metal/seat types based on info here and www.mainlymiles.com.

I've seen the threads relating to obtaining the double bed J seats on the A380 (11, 91, 96 D/F) and will check at T-105 for those. I was thinking of confirming 12 D/F until then.

When making the bookings, the only seat selections that would stick was SIN - SYD (selected 1A/2A but may change to middle suites), all others a message said "Can't process" or similar so I just left them blank.

Rather than just guess off the seat plans in MMB, I'd love to hear the thoughts on seat selections from those who've done it. I'm sure there's no bad seats, but it feels like there's a lot at stake.

So, where to sit for these flights to avoid strangers, internal noise, external noise, too much light, galley traffic, toilet traffic, cubby footwells, etc?

First preference for business class... ANY bulkhead seat, whether this is window (preferable) or one of the pairs in the middle. Bulkhead seats come without the cubby for your feet and are much more comfortable. This offsets the rule to be away from the galley or WCs.

If bulkheads are not available (and keep checking back, often at around the three day mark, and then the two day mark these seats get released for anyone to choose), select any window seat. This avoids strangers, gives you a window (and control over the window shades) and a bit more of a sense of space. Choose something mid cabin to be away from the galley and WCs.

For suites on the A380 - choose a middle pair so you can have the double bed. You can try calling SQ to release seats which might be assigned for bassinet positions. You'll be advised you might need to vacate those seats if an infant is booked, but that's fairly rare.

Thanks @MEL_Traveller. I called and managed to get 15D/F (bassinett) for CBR-SIN and was advised to call back at T-48 to allocate 11D/F, if available. I'll try online at T-105 also. I confirmed 12D/F for SIN-HKG, 1C/D for HKG-SIN and 3C/D for SIN-SYD. Sleep is unlikely on the shortish flights between SIN-HKG, so I think these seem like pretty good selections.

Now I just need a change of metal to ruin things......

Don't forget a trip report to detail your experience! Mr Clipped and I are considering a status run to Japan via Singapore- just so we can try out 91D/F on the A380 and 1A/2A on the Suites on the way back. Love to hear your thoughts :)

Have a fabulous trip!
