Hi all

I am flying SYD-ADL on Sunday and trying to understand the availability numbers and the implications for upgrade (points/Op) etc.

My planned flight is

QF783 (17:25) J3 D0 I0 Y7 B0 H8 K0 M0 L0 VC SC NC QC OC XC E0

The other flights around that time are:

QF765 (73H) - J2 D0 I0 Y9 B0 H9 K0 M0 L0 VC SC NC QC OC XC E0

QF743 (73H) - J7 D0 I0 Y6 B0 H6 K0 M0 L0 VC SC NC QC OC XC E0

QF785 (734) - J2 D0 I0 Y0 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 VC SC NC QC OC XC E0

From my reading of that - all flights look fairly full in whY with only Y and H available. Sadly also most look fairly full in J3/J2/J7/J2

SHould I be right in assuming that an OpUp is unlikely given the Y9/Jlow? Also the lack of I0 says that J is pretty full and an ODU is also unlikely (none granted so far online at numerous occasions).

QF785 looks the best bet for an OpUp but is not an option as 734.

I have a feeling that this will be a dry 2 hours crammed in like sardines - I am wrong in this assumption?

The is the possibility that QF are selling J seats as Y fare buckets, so while there maybe a Y fare available there is a chance there is no actual seats free, QF743 looks the most likely for that scenario.

I can't believe that anyone would go to all that trouble over a 2 hour flight. Must have more spare time than I have got.

Thanks for your input cglmfl - I am glad you have space in your busy schedule to read this thread and add your valuable contribution. I look forward to see more of your insight when you have more free time.

Why a dry 2 hours. I've been getting 785 on Thursday and it hasn't been dry.

Or is it because of being on the weekend?

I can't offer such high level insight as others have given. But 785 is a rather late flight. The SYD departure hall is dead at 7pm on Thursday when I've been getting there. It has also been 738s for the last few weeks except yesterday when it was due to be a 734, I think, but got changed to 738 at the last minute due to technical fault. I've been given exit row consistently, but did move to 4F once.

The airline does that if they think they might have empty seats in order to fill the flight to capacity eg DRW/BNE on a 767 - Y might be chockers yet availability may show seats available as they can op-up premium pax to J.

Better for them to get Y revenue than have a flight go out with empty seats.

Not sure what happened with you re your DRW trip but there are no Citiflyer services in or out of DRW full stop whether weekend or weekday.

Ohh, well my mistake, not being a citiflyer maybe i didn't complain after all. But i still find it to be absolute BS that drinks aren't included on weekends. Paying the same fare just flying on a non weekday. Maybe my comments don't count for DRW flights but certainly i feel they're valid for the usual citiflyer routes.

Totally agree - this is one of the more obviously cynical move by QF to win Corporate customers. I am only flying on the weekend as I have a business presentation at 7:30AM on monday so am as much a corporate as anyone during the week...

Interestingly the seat selection was wide open (I moved to 4C) but now it it is J7 Y7...

Looking forward to seeing what actually happens at the airport.

EDIT

ODU'd to J - caterin not assured though which I guess is no biggie given it is a refreshment flight...

Well done - I tend to splurge my points to avoid the unpredictability of an op-up!
