Seat allocation stolen

A380 on QF?
Yup. That was a seat change made in SIN after my partner insisted on having an isle seat. Whatever magic the lounge did to make the change resulted in us seeing the cabin all the way through. If only we had disembarked from the rear, too... :)

It's not always us bloody P1's though. A bloke I work with who is PS now feels entitled as he grabs a seat in row 4 at T-80 (Sorry I taught him that one... I regret it now :p ) so yeah... just sayin'

True

UNLESS

QF do a stupid non aircraft swap which wipes the seat maps (you know, when they decide to change a 737 for a .. 737 but still somehow it nukes things because.. reasons) and that PS then swoops in and grabs a seat.

Just saying it could be (but unlikely to be sure) as much a ridiculous QF tech screwup taken advantage of by someone else as much as a "you've been shafted by a demanding CL"

checked in and everything into row 4 (physical boarding pass printed) but at the gate found I was moved to row 21. What annoyed me was that row 5,6,7,8,9 all had aisles free.

They needed you and others to balance the weight of the passengers in rows 1 to 4.

Move on to the next post/er ......

Whats a CL or a WP? And Can you actually lose your seat after having booked it and allocated it? And if you do dont they call you up and explain why?

Ooh, I know, I know!

Check out the link to the abbreviations page for these gems!
  • CL: Chairman’s Lounge – QF’s highest member tier/ lounge (also QFCL).
  • CL: Crown Lager – "Premium Beer" (some dispute this) available at QP's
  • CLPO: Chairmans Lounge Platinum One [Cabin Crew Parlance]
  • WP: "W*nker" Platinum - A platinum member of QFs FF program (also QFWP).
  • WP1: "W*nker" Platinum - The Uber Elite platinum level of QFF member of QFs FF program (also WP1 or WPx3)

A phone call is unlikely

Sorry I meant call up when you are checking in or checked in and at the boarding gate to let you know your current seat got changed and the reasons why. Can they just bump people for silly reasons as a more important person / status credit?

Yes, they can bump you from your seat - paid or unpaid - at any time, and give no notice or reason .. or maybe just the magic 'operational reasons'.

They can even bump you from the entire flight, for 'operational reasons'.

As RooFlyer said they can, and the only notice you will get would be a red light at the boarding gate as it reprints your boarding pass

The whole seat allocation business can get pretty annoying. We tend to book a long way ahead, and one advantage of this is that we can get a good chance of choosing our favorite seats, especially on the A380.
But from time to time we are forced to change our flights because Qantas have some operational problem. Next week we are having to travel to London a day earlier due to one of these Qantas problems; as a consequence we have lost our upper cabin QF1 seats, and although I have called the service centre, they say there is nothing they can do!
However, on another recent occasion it looks as though we were given a shadow, as when we checked in we were told the seat between us was occupied by a passenger who had already checked in, but who we never spied!

Wow, Do they compensate you in anyway? I am wondering if thats what happened to me then again i was in a window seat closer to the back flying qantas back from manila to sydney. I got called up while i was at the gate, and said i have been moved and i can choose from a front row of a cabin aisle seat or another aisle seat (Front row of the rear cabin). I just thought maybe there was a problem with my old seat. Can this happen for any seat or only the seats right up the front of the plane?

Failed to board? Or worse, upgraded?
