My old pops, got pinged with the "your package couldn't be delivered", he without consulting me, paid the $1.50 underpaid fee, and is now worried.
I had in the past, told him about scams in general, fake afp, ato, etc, but he knows more, does not listen.
He had deleted that particular email, so I don't know who the sender was.
His card didn't get touched, but I had told him to contact his bank, so went into online banking, as reported card as stolen.
Why is it, that older people always have the attitude that they know more about life in general/know it all.
If anyone else has older parents, at home, or close by, or that you still are in contact with, please tell them to be wary of the fake Auspost email, that is what my dad got, but as we know on here, for some too, its the sms.
===
Edit, the card didn't show any new transactions, before we reported it as stolen, so not sure how long from a person paying the delivery $1.50 or what ever sum, to when they start playing their games/

Thanks for that @AustraliaPoochie , we fall into the "old pops" category and seldom buy anything online (shoes and virus protection only).
These days though for me, seems the shoe size/type I need is always out of stock in store, so have little choice other than to purchase online, a bit of WCMO there!
Interestingly or coincidentally the only time I seem to get a flurry of scam package emails is when I have ordered something 🤔 (maybe twice a year)

Glad it was ok for your old pops but I do hear you.

It's not only old pops, many young people fall for SMS and phone scams too.
Not so long back I was visiting a friend who owns a post office. Whilst there, a young guy came in, very upset, he wanted to know if several thousand dollars worth of gift cards purchased to pay the ATO could be cancelled.

I sure wish that there was a way to stop all these Auspost wannabes, because as mentioned by Flyfrequently, and Buzzard, and I do buy online as well...
Auspost real ones, "your purchase from xyz is being packed by the shipper", meaning an Auspost label has been printed somewhere, ...
Looks like that new Aust govt ACCC anti scam agency still has a very long way to go to bet on top of all these scammers.
Have told my parents too, to watch for "mobile phone service" swap, as the scammers have a lot of pieces of id, if a person did pay the "underpaid shipment fee", ie, home address, email, phone number, credit card number, ccv, if they didn't get it/have it before, they would have it now, all the info, except for dob.

Because older people generally know more about life.

If I'd known 40 years ago what I know today then I'd be the richest person in the world. Probably have control of the world the way elites do today.

Must admit, this came up as a scam detect on my phone

Googled the number, no hits on google, obviously a scam
I decided to call from a private number.

Very professional auto msg
This is anz, if you have been directed to call due to a unknown transaction, press 1 to report press2 to cancel, press 3 if youve already spoken

I pressed 2, and some english accent guy answered

I must admit, if i wasnt suspicious in the first place i would have believed them

Quite worried at falling for the next more sophisticated scam

And i can imagine my elderly parents falling for this

For sopoor, I would not have called back, even if I had access to a private number to call from.
English sounding guy, sounds like the Brit who has scammed so many ladies, with the fake ANZ account, as in the news.
All the ladies who called, said he had an English accent.

Take away the marks, I don't want to be successful in putting the link through to the fake website.
