Friends

This has been covered before but I wish to clarify certain points, with your help.

My membership year ends June 30th.

Current SCs 750 (SG).

Needs 650 SCs to attain WP.

Re-assessment June 2014.

Expected to have about 580-590 SCs before end of May 2013.

Q): Is there any need to do a short run (for 60-70 SCs) before end of June 2013 to get to WP, or that run could be after June 2013 ?

In other words, would my SCs (750 now + expected 590 before end of June 2013) all expire on 30th June 2013 and the clock restarts on 1st July 2013 from naught ?

Would WP attainment before / after June 2013 be any different as far as re-setting the SC clock is concerned and would WP before end of June 2013 be better off in terms of soft landing after June 2014, in the event I do not re-qualify for WP again by then ?

It is simple to many of you here, but I am rather confused re. the timing / clock resetting etc...

Yes. On 1st July 2013 you will have zero SC in your account. Time then to start earning status again !
30th June is the key date

If so, a short SC run to grab WP seems to be a preferred option.

Agree ?

Agree!

I have come across no reports of Qantas comping WP because someone is "only just short" of the 1400 SC's needed to Qualify.

To contrast that, there are many reports of Qantas comping members who are jst short of the 1200 SC's re-qualification mark.

The soon to be wife and I will both be going for WP by the same date. We are currently on 875 and 1000 respectively and we have JASA SYD-MEL-PER and a load of Dom Y booked plus I need to get back to the UK for a week in June. She will get to WP without a run but I may need short one to get over the line.

We decided to push for the line as we have J returns from SYD-JNB and SYD-HKG in our next year along with starting a One World RTW J trip in June 2014 so we will easily retain for a 2nd year.

As mentioned in another post earlier today, if you have a plan further down the line it gives you that incentive to push a little harder to reap the reward.

Thank you all for sharing your knowledge.

It would be silly not to do a run for 60-70 SCs before end of membership year in order to attain WP in that case.

I am clearer now about the date significance of SC expiry.

Planning to time the SCs vis a vis the expiry date is the key.

Thanks again

Yes, it would be silly not to do an SC run, particularly being so close. To many, there is a vast difference between SG and WP

Husband is in the same position with a date of April 30. Plat means much more comfort for business travel. Adelaide is our base so we don't have a bus lounge which is a shame. He received a dsc just last week but he would have made it anyway due to trip to NZ in J and a couple of JASA thanks to these threads. I'm going to have to tell him that once he hits Plat he's back to economy class as he now seems rather partial to business! ;)
