I'm a QFF Gold.

Can you earn SC with Jet Connect in NZ? Any tips on flying domestic in NZ and earning SCs?

eg: QF4191 (Auckland to Queenstown)

Is there a lounge that QFF Gold FF can visit at the airport? (Auckland, Queenstown, Christchurch)

thanks

Chucksta

I did this same route recently. You will get 15 SC and a 1000 QFF points.

As for QP's there is one at both AKL & CHC, and are both quite good.

There is no QP at ZQN, only a Koru club.

The QP are only in AKL, CHC and WLG two each Int & Dom.
If you are going AKL to ZQN or reverse try to get on different flight numbers eg have a layover at CHC, you would then 20 SC and 2,000 points.
NZ domestic is treated as International ie. only travelling in Y fare class will get you full SC. In my experience only happens when you travel with a J class connection.
Oh some of the domestic flights use the international configured 737 so you could get a J seat but Y service (well they have the pillows out for you, take your jacket and you get "the stare" from envious passengers). NZ domestic has some buy on board, juices, soft drinks and alcohol.
ZQN checkin is huge for its size (?), but there was little food options and the airside holding area is small so you may not get a seat. You will enjoy the landing into ZQN dodging mountains and over the lake. Go uo to Deer Park heights and look down on landing aircraft.

It has a QF flight number so you get SCs and QF FF points the same as any other QF flight. Note that NZ domestic flights are considered international flights for the purpose of determining if discount or full economy for the SC payment rates.

Just booked some I class business class seats from MEL to AKL.

I'm assuming the 747 from MEL to AKL has skybeds fitted.
(Row 1A/B - right at the pointy end LOL)

But i'm coming back on the 767-300. I just called qantas to allocate some seats and was given 2A/B on the 767.

Does this mean it is the same business class seats as Qantas Domestic 767s?

thanks

Nup!

Of the Qantas 747's, only the 743 has seating 1A/B and they are Dreatime Seats, not Skybeds. No real problem; IMO they are fine for a short day trip across the Tasman. At least you'll have personal IFE.

You are correct about the 767; Seats 2A/B imply a domestic configuration. There are no 'B' seats in J class for Qantas Dreamtime equipped 763's as it's a 1x2x2 row configuration.

Yes, all Qantas 747-400s have Skybeds fitted. Not that it matters for a 3 hour daytime flight if they were to substitute a 747-300 with dreamtime seats for that sector.

Yes, that will be a domestic config with Millennium seats. The dreamtime configured international 767s don't have B seats.

Being a QF Gold and QC member you have a great chance of getting placed in business 'for free'.

Every time I fly Jetconnect I get seat 1A its fantastic! Nice little domestic airline with fantastic service (I know I've said it 1000 times).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Agree on both counts. There never seems to be many QP / WP/SG members flying domestic - or at least the number of patrons in the QP is often small. So allocation will mean a forward seat.

Considering I am just a QPPS and even when I was a QPNB I got the business seats. There is not really a way of finding which flight will have the business seats except the 737-400 ones.
Jetconnect at the moment seems to be losing an international 737-300 but according to Kiwi Flyer they are going to reconfigure one or two back later this year. The 737-400 were supposed to be with Millennium seats but have the convertible ones instead, I wonder if they are ever going to do that.
Oh QF NZ domestic beats ANZ domestic hands down, except in the lounge department where I feel the Koru Clubs have a slight advantage, huge if you include the beer category, exception was the CHC KC which is now closed for refurbishment. The downside of KC is that there are more patrons than the QP, QP around 10-20 people.

Be careful with the seat allocations - I had 3AB allocated on CHC-SYD 767-3 but about a week before travel it swapped to a 1-2-2 config and we got split up. (No big deal because I noticed it, but if you really want your seats keep an eye on it)

Actually I was just passing on info that wunala dreaming posted.

Agree there is generally less status pax on QF than on NZ, except for the peak business flights between Auckland Wellington and Christchurch. On QF domestic I'll always get row 1 or 2 (mostly row 1), whereas on NZ I could be as far back as row 10 or 12 even on offpeak flights.

Depending on fares and how much time I have I may fly to ZQN via CHC for the extra 5 SCs and 1000 points.

chuksta - when are you flying?

KiwiFlyer: I'll be in NZ in DEC.

So if i book QF codeshare with JetConnect from Auckland to CC. How do i request seat those business class seats up front? Or is it first come first serve, with the highest status?

There's going to be 4 QFF Gold members flying together.. LOL

You cannot request NZ Domestic seats, I tried and the CC cannot do it. I do not know if they do the overnight pre-allocation or if it is first come first served. I believe it is pre-allocation based on status as I took the same two flights as my department head, NB and he got the back seats and as a PS I got the front and J seats. Note the return flight was 30% and there were only a few passengers in the J cabin, but I asked the CSM about moving him up to the empty J seat and she let him.:)

Flying on a QF flight number with JetConnect is not really code sharing.

Jetconnect actually use the QF designator in the first place. Now if you were flying JetConnect on a non QF flight number (eg AA5432) that would be a codeshare.
