Hello Wise AFFers,
I'm just wondering what the wise minds at AFF would make of the following situation. Aiming to do a return Melbourne to Jakarta and hit Silver using the DSC promotion. However, looking into flights there seems like a no-brainer upgrade to business at least on the way there.
Situation
Aim: Melbourne to Jakarta (Return: 31 Jul - 21 Aug)
QF Pts: 100,000
Cash: Limited
SCs: 180 w/ DSC until end of August
Flight Options
MEL-CGK (YASA) = 50,000 + $102.99 <- QF + JQ (via Per) [40 SCs - JetStarter does not earn?]
MEL-CGK (YASA) = 50,000 + $459.45 <- QF + QF (via Syd) [70 SCs]
MEL-CGK (JASA) = 50,000 + $404.13 <- QF + QF (via Syd) [280 SCs]
CGK-MEL (YASA) = 50,000 + $6.95 <- QF + QF (via Syd) [70 SCs]
CGK-MEL (JASA) = 50,000 + $278.50 <- QF + QF (via Syd) [280 SCs] [Not Available YET*]
CGK-MEL (Econ Classic) = 30,000 + US$139.66 [0 SCs]
* Saw this fare for a few more recent dates. Hoping it opens up?
Thoughts
So looking at the above the MEL-CGK (JASA) seems like the most viable option.
-> QF+JQ YASA will not net enough SCs to hit Silver
-> QF+QF YASA is more expensive than JASA?
However, the question then becomes on the way back. If taking the MEL-CGK (JASA) is it better to:
-> Classic Award; Save points + spend a little more money
-> YASA; Spend 20,000 pts to save $130 & Earn 6,000 QF Pts + 70 SCs (ends in 530 SCs)
-> JASA; Costs most but will actually hit Gold Status - will probably make 2x trips from MEL-SEA in the next 12 mths
And it's made more complicated by the fact the YASA back looks to be at a good price (51,000 pts) while the JASA back looks to be expensive but *may* drop in price closer to the dates?
Just based off reading I believe cancelling a YASA has no fee? Is this the case for Point + Pay (50,000 + $6.95) ?
If so would it make the most sense to:
1. Book MEL-CGK JASA
2. Book CGK-MEL YASA
3. Watch to see if CGK-MEL JASA drops down to a more affordable ~80,000 pts on the desired date?
4. Fly YASA if it doesn't; Switch to JASA if it does?
