My first ever QF award redemption was in 2002 when they had 40% off international awards to HKG, so I redeemed 30000 QF points for QF SYD-BNE-HKG/HKG-SYD return ticket in Y. The total taxes and surcharges for the return fare was $112.00 AUD. It was actually a bargain as the +++ was low.

At that year, the oil price ranges from 21-30USD.

The current QF promo, whilst good, the +++ really kills it. You may as well buy a return ticket to HKG which at sale time, was less than $600AUD (300AUD one way).

Given now that the oil price is < 40 USD per barrel, and QF share doing so well, maybe QF should start considering getting rid of fuel fines?

I have a BNE => HKG award flight that I booked in NOV for 30k Points, now its showing up as 19k Points. Would it be worth my time to call up and "re-book"?

Definitely worth calling. They may even give you back 11K QFF points without even rebooking!

Worth trying. Worse case scenario is you cancel original award with 5,000 QFF points penalty and rebook new award for 19,000 QFF points.

Yes, I agree. Its a big problem for QFF, or at least QFF customers. I initially had a bit of interest when this email popped into my inbox, but, looking at PER-HKG Y its 39,000 + 160$ - thats $1330 value to me (at 3c a point), but even at 2c its $940 one-way. I can buy a revenue ticket return on SQ Y for circa $800-900 any day of the week.

My WoW CC will get cancelled next month when I've finally transferred everything away from it and that will be that QFF accrual wise. I might still see a dribble, keeping my points alive if Woolies comes through with WWR->QFF but otherwise, nothing. With several hundred thousand points mouldering away as they have been for ages, I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever use them. Perhaps a couple of OW round-the-world in J.

They have kindly cancelled my original award, and have rebooked me on the 19,500pt award. Just replying in case anyone else needs this info. There hasn't been any fee shown in my activity statement, but it was said that there may be a 3000pt charge when I called earlier.

I am thinking of booking MEL-LHR one way for September next year: 41,600+330AUD strikes me as good value given I only need a one way. However, my dates are not yet set in stone. Does anyone with previous experience of such discounts know what will happen if I change dates closer to the time - will it only require the 3500 change fee or will it reprice as 64,000 points?

I'm looking to book a family holiday taking some advantage of the sale later on today. 2 adults, 1 child.

At the moment looking to do:

LAX-MEL Economy Qantas 31,200

Total 170,400 x 3 (511,200) plus $2939.96

I've played around with a few options, and it seems pretty good to me, despite a few people complaining about the value of points. We have about 600k points. Am I missing something obvious? Is there anything in that itinerary that rings alarm bells? If we went economy for the second leg it would save ~$600 and 126k points, but the opportunity to fly in Emirate business class is not one that would come up often for us.

The EK flights most likely on a 777. Thats 2-3-2 business seating and angled beds. I found the seat narrow too. Still good value for the distance and lounge access in DXB. Going to LHR rather than LGW may show a A380 with better business class.

Have you tried HKT from/to BKK/SIN/HKG? Might allow avoidance of jetstar and different options to LHR?

Earlier this year Jetstar had a discount on redemptions for domestic Japan flights, I booked and then later had to change the booking. The new booking was repriced as the normal points cost and the difference was taken from my account. I can't quite remember if I was charged the change fee, probably.

You didn't change dates or flights?

I have a flight booked in June HKG-SYD that cost 30,000 QFF points and will earn 30 SCs. I want to keep same flight. Don't care about the SCs now but don't want to lose 43H. In theory this should cost me 5,000 QFF points but trying to work out how to pay 3,000 QFF point change fee only.

Either way I am in front.
