Dear Ansett

Make your Qantas Points go further with our Classic Flight Reward sale to Qantas and Jetstar international destinations when flying from Australia or New Zealand.

Until 22 December 2015, we're offering 35% off the points required for eligible Economy international Qantas-operated Classic Flight Rewards with a QF flight number[SUP]*[/SUP]. We're also offering 20% off the points required for eligible Economy international Jetstar Classic Flight Rewards with a JQ (Jetstar) or 3K (Jetstar Asia) flight number[SUP]*[/SUP].

Why not use your points to book a Classic Flight Reward today?

It implies return bookings only as well; but the discount is applied for one-way.

+++ is still eye-watering.

Was looking for a one way BNE/HKG booked with 39K points and $340 for two all up,a bargain.

It would be nice if they offered 35% off the fuel surcharge as well.

At least makes some Y redemptions of passable value given the +++

Indeed.

SYD-HKG from '39000 + $337.98'. Would be simpler and fairer if they said 'use 39000 points to save $300 off our regular sale fares to HKG'.

Similar (non)savings to USA... fares are going as low as $999 yet they still want $677 in Qantas imposed charges for the pleasure of using 62000 points.

I have just spent the last hour searching availability in Asia during September 16. I need flights to KMG, SIN & DPS. I searched every way I could think of and found Classic Reward availability fairly easily to HKG, DPS, SHA etc, but the +++ make it pointless to use points for these flights. I was already happy with the booking I made last week KMG-HKG-SIN for 20,000 points + about AUD35 and this just confirms it is excellent value.

OP indicated that was for 2 travellers, one way. So it's 19,500 + $168.99 for one way fare to HKG which isn't bad. HKG is the sweetspot though due to regulated fuel surcharges.

We don't normally go in Y long haul but considering its a daylight flight BNE/HKG and we had a return award daylight flight in J on CX in hand using AA miles, the QF points & spend was a good deal to us one way.

Spring School Holiday season - most X would have been snapped up two months ago.
I found quite a bit of availability as I said in my post. It was the +++ that made it not worthwhile, there was no problem with availability as long as I was flexible with dates, excluding SIN of course, plenty into HKG, SHA and even DPS.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Sorry ... I misread.

So maybe that's why the sales - rewards that traditionally have been snapped up are neing passed on ... maybe due to the fuel fines.

or perhaps people are buying toasters and other goods from the store and perhaps people are not using QF as much any more. It is now I would expect to start to see some of the effects of the simpler and fairer initiative starting to bite.

Have not seen QF offering such an incentive at this time of year nor with such availability. Please correct me if wrong.

Well, you are most likely correct about school holidays availability, I was looking, in the most part, outside of school hols. Except for DPS, our departure is in school hols and I could get 2 seats on 28 Sep MEL-DPS. However the surcharge for 2 people MEL-DPS was $450+ which hardly makes it a worthwhile use of points, even at 16,000 pp. Virgin recently had (I haven't looked today) $345 BNE-DPS per person. Our start point is NTL so either BNE or MEL works well. It usually doesn't make sense from a price perspective to include NTL in the search. I can see why the average person gets frustrated with trying to use Classic Rewards Y, for me it's the value ex other countries that makes it work.

The discount on QFF points needed for awards is fantastic.

Taxes to/from BKK = ~AUD450, to/from HKG = ~AUD335, to/from BNE-AKL = ~AUD185.

I'm sure I've seen sale fares BNE - AKL for less than that.
