From the latest PriorityGUEST email...

Rydges PriorityGUEST’s newest member benefit, webcheck-in, will ensure you avoid the queues and get to your room quicker.

When you book online, simply tick the webcheck-in box and we will check you into your room prior to arrival – make sure you advise us of your estimated time of arrival on your booking form.

Check-in time is from 2.00pm at all hotels. All arrivals prior to this time are on a request basis only dependant on hotel availability.

When you arrive at the hotel, go to the dedicated Rydges PriorityGUEST member check-in line and you will be handed keys to your room. It’s as simple as that.

webcheck-in is a free service and is available exclusively to all Rydges PriorityGUEST members.
Time will tell if this is a real benefit or just a gimmick.

Richard.

Did they have to swipe your card to enter details onto it or its details into their entry system ? (Sorry I dont fully understand just how the entry systems normally work)

It would make late arrivals great if all they needed to do was have a sign with your room details on so you could go straight to it - or send by sms even.

Rydges Auckland did this when I stayed there recently. It's no different to what is normally done with the blank cards they have onhand (ie they load it into a validation/encoding machine which then writes certain data to the magnetic strip). This then becomes your key for the room.

The current door entry systems wouldn't be able to support this being done remotely (ie without them putting your card through their machine), however perhaps in the future this could be possible.

With web-checkin though, I don't really see it saving too much time. It's really just an express check-in line.
