Just discovered that if you're having dinner and a couple more drinks just leave a tab open to continue to get the discounts applicable to subsequent drinks as I don't think they can offer discounts on drinks by themselves. Nice!!:)

If PGR Black gives GHA Black does the opposite happen?

As a GHA Black member I'd love my PGR upgraded from gold to black ;).

I'm not 100% certain but given PGR is a GHA member wouldn't you get black benefits automatically? I'm expecting to receive GHA black benefits when I visit soon and I've received platinum GHA benefits when staying at a couple of other GHA properties.

I do think 50% off F&B is great vs the A+ card you need a 2nd person dining and in NZ the places I've been sometimes is food only, no discount to beverage:evil:

I have yet.... another question:oops:

i had a stay which started 28 dec which rolled into January. Most of the stay was in Jan. Will the nights in Jan go towards requalification in 2017 or will Jan nights go towards 2016 yr? (Where it's not needed).

As a data point my stays have always been credited to the day of arrival :-|

Worth contacting PGR to ask about this as they are usually pretty good at sorting things like this out and may even comp you if you were that close.

As for bar drinks and the black card, the discount is 50% all the time - meal or not, and is probably the best feature of the black card

(Shame it doesn't apply to mini bar or room service but still a great perk)

Rydges Altura Albury not giving discounts to members for drinks unless you are dining.
Have been told this is the rule at all Rydges. It's a first for me.

Was at Altura, Blacktown a month ago....Turned up for Happy Hour, opened tab.... Was a Happy 3 or 4 hours...

And that's only for the drinks Barman charged me for.

Also, had 20% off the meal I ordered at the Bar at same time.
Paid tab with full discounts included.
VERY Happy Fella I was.

Albury, Aregular haunt,... has previously had equally generous staff attitude, So...Sad to see a change such as you are seeing.

But, with a 50+m2 room and a kickass Large King Bed,...now I worry for my return?

I'm figuring Higher management must have been bored and started reading Sales vs profit vs gratuitie Results...?

Damn them and their Boredom !!

Just wondering if the reason Buzzard didn't receive the discount was because no food was ordered? And donovan301 received the discount due to food being ordered?

I think I was also told you needed to be dining to receive drink discounts but I was grabbing food anyway and grabbed some drinks and left the tab for the drinks open so the drinks were eligible for the ongoing discount.

Heya Winged Kiwi Gal,

Meal was an after thought...really think it depends upon your relationship with the barman/woman.

I got full happy hour discount for about 3 or 4 hours in purchases...pluas the 20% meal disc.

It's not who you know, it's how well you treat them ;-)

Yeah I never really noticed until now. Anyway according to their T&C's if you're going by nights it's during the calendar year. I did email PGR and they confirmed despite the 'arrival date' being the departure date that the nights would accrue for the following year and I could keep my black throughout 2018 also - yay! I've kept the email in case I haven't received a new card by October.

Hi :)

Ah - there goes my theory then.

So that last sentence may play a bigger part than anticipated!

Looks like PGR have 'enhanced' the program

Conditions now include the purchase of a meal to get the 20/50% discount - not sure when they changed these but I was still getting the 50% off for drinks only just last month.

Probably the worst change since PGR brought in a 36 month age limit for points, even for active accounts.

It's not a new change. It is just that some hotels don't enforce it.

another question on the crossover between PGR and Discovery with GHA.

has anyone got any experience in how the status with PGR gets carried over to a GHA property. i guess what im asking is as a plat/black with prg, how does a gha property know this other than presenting the card on check-in. to ensure the benefits like double upgrade, i cant see handing over the card at check in being a reliable way of ensuring this perk is achieved.

this year i am aiming to hit black with GHA, ive already done the stays with PRG to qualify but due to the nights rather than stays qualification with GHA it will take abit longer. interestingly my member number is the same across both programs and stays have been covering off on both programs as they come through. the reason i mention this is the fact this seems to be mentioned in the T&C's as not possible.

i am still struggling to understand why when i a status with PRG (which has discovery on the card) im not automatically given matching in the GHA program. the lack of clear info from PRG has meant im still fumbling with a few working parts of this program.

Only have one experience to report:

We stayed at the Avani in Livingstone. Check-in agent didn't seem to know what the Rydges (or Discovery) thing was. I asked if I was entitled to a local experience as a Black member. She said she would check with "Guest Relations".

About an hour later having heard nothing, I accidently found myself talking to a lady from said Guest Relations who was able to confirm my status on her system and said she would check with the Manager. About 20 minuets later, we were offered a complimentary river cruise; and later that afternoon we were moved to their largest suite.

All a bit hit and miss, not sure whether just this hotel or the tie-up between programs in general.

May I suggest you email the hotel in advance and ask what benefits you may be entitled to?

I've always found that my PGR Black status automatically carries over to GHA.
ie 10 nights at PGR = Black which then gives Black GHA status (rather than 30 nights if staying directly at GHA hotels).

if you sign into the GHA site you it wii show your current status level and you can request a Discovery card which comes from o/s and usually arrives in under a month.

I have both a GHA number and a Separate PGR number and although the GHA site recognizes both numbers and links to the same account, the PGR site only accepts their own number.

your explanation i what i would have assumed happened. to have a status with PGR with discovery on it not being carried across seems not to make sense.

in saying that my discovery is still sitting at gold a couple weeks after i hit 10 stays, a good month or so since i hot plat with PGR. not sure to to make of all this.

looking to book some nights in bangkok soon so hoping i had all of this running as hoped before booking. wish me luck

Did you make a claim through the GHA website? saying your account hasn't updated to the relevant level?

You only need 10 stays according to the PGR website for GHA black. I ended up with 30 nights last yr and this yr so can't confirm the 10 stay thing via my own experience.
