Funny title, they've been trying to buy them out for years - the Irish government keeps stopping it I believe and understandably so!

If AJ was still at Aer Lingus... could be the new CEO and who knows where Qantas may be now

Someone must have notice Ryanair haven't been in the headlines lately.

It will be a sad day when this happens, and I mean when, given the basket case that is the Irish economy and the Irish govt. When EI succombed to the LCC pressure in the late 90's early 00's and split their style to LCC short-haul and full(er) service longhaul the rot started. They have not been able to differential themselves enough from the other LCC carriers and frankly their hard product is dated.

I can quite easily see Ryanair operating all the short/medium haul routes as LCC and then EI (a Ryanair company) operating the longer haul stuff. They may operate the LH as LCC (a la Air Asia) but regardless I think they will keep them as EI due to the marketing potenial in the LOTFAP. Because everyone in the LOTFAP is Irish of course.
