[rumour] US to join oneworld as an affiliate before full AA merger

I suppose of interest to everyone now is what does this mean for award travel and realigning your travel goals going forward.

In particular, there was a bit of trepidation on those who were possibly stockpiling miles in anticipation of the merger.

I'd imagine that with the current "enhancement" season (called "devaluation" in the USA parlance), some might advocate that as soon as US/AA finish merging, the best way to hedge yourself is to burn hard.

I think what also surprises me is that from one source, I heard that the new AA/US will become the "largest airline"... I forgot which context followed it (I don't think it was "in the world" but I really can't remember), but unless the answer is "based in Dallas" I don't think AA/US will be the biggest of anything, but I'll plead ignorance on knowing the numbers and scales.

indeed it will - world's largest air carrier. Eclipsing the current UA and DL.

Based on wiki the new AA will win on fleet size and pax carried.

I'm interested when US leave *A and join OW but before the DM program is merged, which I believe may be a period of about six months. I wonder if US will keep their own rules, award chart, regions, promos etc but bookable on OW or whether they will adopt everything AA does. If its the first options I think there will be some extremely unique travel options for a short period!

I'd be expecting a devaluation sooner rather than later to be honest.

All reports are 7th Jan for co-crediting.

Two reports are around for *A exit timing, one is "January" and other is 1st ¼ 2014.

So, don't hold your breath past March.

Any inside info on when a QF page for crediting US flights will appear. My assumption is 31 Mar at the latest...

But that may be serious wandering
