Great to see the game played at pace with both teams running. Best game at a world cup final. I wish I could have stayed in UK a bit longer. And Nigel Owens didnt miss the foward pass, he asked Wayne Barnes twice if the pass was ok. That is considered a bit ironic by some of my countrymen who still blame Barnes for missing a forward pass 50 or so years ago.
It will be interesting to see who has to wear black for qantas

He certainly did tonight. At least 2 blatantly wrong calls. Forward pass and knock on that killed any wallaby momentum. The first try came shortly after the forward pass.

First decision was just a penalty for dumping someone on their head. Thankfully sanity prevailed and the yellow card came out. Then there was Richie laying all over the ground playing the ball and getting a turn over. It says something about the all blacks that they're happy to win from such blatant infringement.

Still overall the right team one. Wallabies were always going to struggle. Just for once it would be good if their chance to win wasn't impaired by shocking refereeing.

Who are you calling a private school boy!?

Even though he had a shocker, I would have been majorly disappointed if the Wallabies had have won, the AB's were just the better team and deserved it more. Dan Carter is the best Rugby player since John Eales and it's nice for him to go out like that.

Hats off to Pocock and Hooper. They were absolutely amazing.

Owens certainly didn't check the forward pass. He also did blatantly say the knock forward went back. In any case, it was great to see that Richie didn't compromise his (low) standard of play in his final test. It is a compliment to the Wallabies that he feels he needs to infringe to win the game. Still a shame that the referee had no interest in policing the All Blacks in the ruck.

No excuses, as both Oz captain and coach declared. Except for time NZ fullback was sin-binned (more like 13 min. passage) the play was dominated by the All Blacks, deservedly the world champions

Hard to agree the All blacks dominated the rest of the game. They dominated the first half, with poor decisions. The second half was a different story for much longer than 10 minutes. There were many good attacking runs that ended in unforced dropped ball.

I don't think I said anything to say they didn't deserve to win. How many times did the wallabies drop the easy ball? Just that it would have been good for Wallabies to not be hampered by poor refereeing.

Wallabies had their 20 minutes but ABs deserved winners. Shame to see the AB superstars retire from international rugby but it's got to improve the Wallaby odds in the Bledisloe
I think you may find some Wallabies are retiring too (or at least moving to France to milk that particular cow).

<redacted> Any loose forward (including your beloved Hooper and Pocock) push the limit and they will often get penalised for that reason. If you can sit there and say that McCaw has a low standard of play, you should probably consider supporting another game <redacted>.

I think Cheka summed it up "a no excuses policy". How top shelf referees miss an obvious forward pass is beyond me. That just shows they're imperfect and that these things along with early injuries to front-line players and that in a no excuses policy you need scenario plan for them. NZ were devastating in the first half. And the Aussies made some poor ball choices. Carters is just a gun player. Too bad it's his swansong but age is the only thing that catches up even with world-class stars. So yea how many Qantas jets will now be black ?

The referee can only do so much. And he DID ask twice if the pass was forward and his TA said it was fine.
The loosies do all play to the limit. Nz does fear Pocock and Hooper with good reason, they are so close to the breakdown and if they cannot win the ball they do their best to slow the play down. Lik eall the other top loosies. I would hate rugby to go on the path of American football where a flag is thrown down on every suspect play, then play stops and its analysed. If we are going to be picky both teams played the occasional block, both teams could have been penalised for not clearing the ruck and there were a few times when a team was playing players off the ball. Let the players run.

Actually, in American Football, if it can't be measured then there is no Video.

By "measure", I refer to things like foot touching the line, ball 'breaking the plane', forward pass/fumble, etc.

Subjective calls such as holding, pass interference, illegal blocks, roughing the passer etc are unreviewable.

The referee can only do so much.

Indeed, a professional referee should be expected to get it right.

The better team on the day won, but there were some appalling decisions by the referee which predominantly hurt Australia.

For a lighter (neutral?) view on the game.

Rugby World Cup: 'The little guys won' - BBC News

I like it - captures many of the idiosyncrasies of the Trans Tasman divide.

I think Australia did very well to make the final and put up fierce opposition for 70 of the 80 minutes. McCaw, Carter and Nonu displayed their enduring class. Skudder and Barrett (he's quick!) will continue the story. Pocock was gracious in defeat. Well worth getting up for ...
