My job allows me to have several months a year off and in that time I usually travel. I find that the One World RTW offers me the widest choice and best value. My only prerequisite in planning was that I wanted to visit places I haven't travelled to before. Travel would be in economy class as this gave me more scope for ticketing purposes.

I came up with an itinerary very quickly and had no problems booking the trip with Qantas. I had to give them a call as the trip couldn't be completed online. My final itinerary was:

Brisbane - Sydney Qantas
Sydney - Johannesburg Qantas (upgraded to Premium Economy)
Side trip to Livingston Zambia with British Airways
Johannesburg - Doha - Dubai with Qatar (last leg upgraded to business)
Side trip to Iran flying Air Dubai & Air Arabia (one leg in Iran with Iran Aseman Airlines)
Dubai - Dublin via London British Airways
Dublin -Santiago via Madrid Iberia
Side trip Santiago - Easter Island with Lan Chile
Santiago - Sydney Qantas
Sydney -Brisbane Qantas.

140,000 points and $1300AUD

I am almost halfway through the trip writing from the BA Lounge Dubai Airport. I will elaborate on the journey as I go along.

Sounds like a very interesting trip - look forward to reading more

Welcome to the posting side of things!

Sounds good. Am going to Iran and Easter Island next year (separate trips) - will be very interested in the Easter Island set up (accommodations, tours etc). Rather than looping back to Santiago from Easter Island, I'm going on to Papeete with LAN and then on ANZ back to Sydney. Wonder if you could have gotten a QF code share home from PPT, or had an open jaw on your RTW and pick it up again from AKL?

Accom is all very basic and centred around the small town which is walking distance (sans luggage) from the airport. Take the full day tour of the island, that is enough. We did that and two subsequent half day tours. It was more of the same.

Accom is basic and expensive, as is everything else (relatively). But it's truly fascinating and well worth a couple of nights visit.

Welcome. Don't forget if you visit Iran you can't get the ESTA visa waiver for the USA and will need to apply for a visa there. Not a big deal, but something else that has to be done if you have a trip planned the US.

Looks like some interest places.

Matt
