Its main attraction to me is that its one of the 'originals', not re-built 'recently'. Its just that I've planned to visit it the last 3 times when in Japan, and thwarted each time. First time I got a cold and didn't feel like the trip from Tokyo, second time it was 'Golden Week' and I couldn't face the queues, and now the virus!
Now I'm determined. Matsumo might be an alternative, or addition.

I like your style, I have been to JP with mates just to visit castles and attend sword and or armour exhibitions. The annual (main) sword festival in late Nov is a good 4 day trip if you are that way inclined. The nihonto, tsuba, koshirae and the other small parts collectors are all different. As mentioned in my last TR, there are 12 original castles left. My goal is to visit them all one day....only managed Himeji, Matsumoto and Hikone so far long way to go!
