Hi - I was wondering if some of you experts out there could assist me with a RTW Trip.

I need to get to Rome, Italy and Krakow, Poland (from Adelaide). I am looking at departing towards the end of November or the beginning of December and being away for just over/under a month.

I noticed that there is a Round the World Special on the Bestflights site
http://www.bestflights.com.au/cgi-bin/203/flights?maindetails=2080.

I have never looked at a Round the World ticket before... Would this package suit me? It appears that I would have to select Zone 2 to go to Rome and Krakow and that it would cost me $1699 + Taxes. Is this correct?

Is it possible for me to travel to other destinations in order to do a "points run" and get as many points as possible? Could anyone suggest a route?

Hopefully I am not asking too much… :p

Thanks for any help. :p

only 1 stop allowed
My reading of the rules permits up to 3 stops. The fare is valid to London, Frankfurt and Paris, via Asia, Africa, and USA, and permits one stop in each direction. So for my reading, that is one stop on the way to LHR/FRA/CDG, a stop at either of LHR/FRA/CDG and a stop on the way home from LHR/FRA/CDG. So not such a bad deal.
I think thi smay suit you. This from the genius himself, NM.

He would be the best person that could explain the options that are open to you!!!!

I dont think that option would work as my read is its not a true RTW but instead a return flight to europe that happens to let you travel via both hemispheres (asia and north america) and include a few stopovers.

Need to check whether can do intra-europe sectors that are out of your way. Ie if Krakow is the destination then Rome is not on the way there, similarly if Rome is the destination then Krakow isnt on the way there.

I would expect that fare would require a separate ticket either Krakow to Rome return or Rome to Krakow return, or possibly one-way if the fare allowed an open jaw within Europe. There are no direct one world flights between Rome & Krakow so either go for LCC/Alitalia, or route via LHR on BA or HEL on AY.

I suspect the cheapest way to visit Rome and Krakow on a single ticket is either find a fare to europe that allows a side trip (may be a couple hundred extra for the sidetrip), or a Star Alliance 26k RTW (this is the budget version on *A) as plenty of *A options to get to and between both Rome and Krakow.

Standard prices for *A RTW Star Lite (26k in economy).

Starlite/Star Special
Low Season - AUD2499.00 (All year except peak season dates)
Peak Season - AUD2899.00 (01JUN-19AUG and 07DEC-24DEC)

hmmm not as cheap as I thought

I don't believe this fare will get you to both Rome and Krakow. Its one of the other. Why not buy the Zone 1 fare and use that to get you to Rome, and then find a cheap intra-Europe option for getting to Krakow - perhaps even consider using trains as an option. OneWorld flights between Rome and Krakow are not going to be direct (via London, Barcelona, Madrid, Helsinki etc), so perhaps look for options like Alitalia, Austrian or Lufthansa with connections in MXP, MUC, VIE etc.

Note that this fare is not going to earn much in the way of FF benefits, but its a very cheap way to get to the places you want to go.

To give an idea on price. Alitalia and LOT Polish Airlines are both around A$350 for FCO-KRK-FCO (picking dates at random), with tax about 40% of that amount.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
