    Hello Everyone,

I am flying SYD SIN BOM LHR LAX SFO AKL CHC SYD in J for late Nov and have a couple fo question i hope you might answer for me.

Firstly, I was most surprised that when i booked i am waitlisted on SQ for SYD SIN . Its a D class fare but surely teh flight is not full yet. I imagine it will be cleared but wondering exactly when?

Secondly , I am Air NZ Air Points Silver and have 616 AP and wonder if this trip will elevate me to Gold??

    Welcome to AFF airnewzealand :)

SQ often waitlists discounted first and business. I have no problem clearing waitlist except peak season (Dec/Jan) but then my status helps. For flight that far out you should be okay - its not peak season - but no guarantees.

VS flights wont count towards NZ Airpoints status, but will accrue airpoints dollars that you can redeem in future. Are you flying NZ LHR-LAX? Is LAX-SFO a surface sector (not aware of SQ, VS or NZ flying that one)?

Assuming you aren't based in Australia or Norfolk Island (which have australian airpoints dollars), the airpoints dollars you will earn

    SYD-SIN 165
    SIN-BOM 60
    BOM-LHR 140 (non-status)
LHR-LAX 100 (status if flying NZ)
    SFO-AKL 250 NZ
    AKL-CHC 10 NZ
    CHC-SYD 40 NZ

Total 765, 625 status and 400 on NZ

Gold = 900 (810 for requalifying), Gold Elite = 1500 (1350 for requalifying) but 900 (810) must be on NZ.

Assuming this trip is completed in the same membership year as your 616 airpoints dollars to date then you have enough for Gold status.

The OP has Sydney listed under location in their profile. Will that make a difference?

    Sorry I didnt see that.

I dont think it will alter the conclusion, but the values of airbucks (Airpoints Dollars) earned will be less (because its measured in australian airbucks instead of new zealand airbucks) and the airbucks needed for status are also less.

    Table corrected for australian airbucks.

    SYD-SIN 150
    SIN-BOM 55
    BOM-LHR 125 (non-status)
LHR-LAX 90 (status if flying NZ)
    SFO-AKL 225 NZ
    AKL-CHC 9 NZ
    CHC-SYD 35 NZ

Total 689, 564 status and 359 on NZ

Gold = 800 (720 for requalifying), Gold Elite = 1350 (1215 for requalifying) but 800 (720) must be on NZ.

Assuming this trip is completed in the same membership year as your 616 airpoints dollars to date then you have enough for Gold status.

I have just been checking the Airpoints charts and it seems I will earn 275 AP on the LHR LAX sector - I would only earn 90AP if I was flying VS so looks like I am on my way to gold :D .

BTW I am flying into AKL from SFO then fly down to CHC and onto SYD the same day so I presume i will accrue 275 AP for those 3 sectors???

    Cheers

For LHR-LAX I think you're looking at the NZ earning chart. However as this leg is part of a ticket that includes carriers other than NZ the lower amount on the partner earning chart applies for all sectors including those flown on NZ.

SFO-AKL-CHC-SYD should earn 269 airbucks as I itemised. You only earn North America to Australia airbucks if it is the same flight number through. Again this is on the partner earning chart as part of the same ticket that includes carriers other than NZ.

The reason you cant use the NZ earning chart is that Airpoints is now a revenue based scheme - NZ gets less for flying someone as part of RTW than it would get flying them just on a separate ticket for the same flights.

    I hope this makes sense.

Many Thanks KiwiFlyer and, yes, that did make sense once I had a closer look at the charts and read the partner charts. 90 AP LHR LAX is a bit lousy I reckon!

Assuming this trip is in the same membership year as your existing 616 airbucks, then you'll reach gold when the SIN-BOM flight posts (my SQ flights post within a couple of days usually).

Depending on exact date it may take a short while for your status to update to Gold. Assuming this happens soon enough then you could possibly apply to upgrade LHR-LAX (if flying on NZ) and SFO-AKL using the Airpoints Gold complimentary upgrade vouchers. Upgrade can now be requested online (or over the phone at Airpoints service number), but must be done at least 4 hours in advance of the flight.

    (see www.airnz.com.au)

Hi KiwiFlyer since I am flying in J LHR - LAX on NZ and likewise SFO AKL I won't need to use the comp upgrade vouchers. I can use the UG vouchers at a later date

BTW Any news on whether we will see the 777 in SYD???

    Cheers

And of course no F by then. Sorry I do need waking up

No idea whether 777 will even serve SYD. While 777 may well do some trans-tasman training runs when first delivered, my guess is it may replace some of the 747 flights (ie AKL-BNE and AKL-MEL) seeing NZ will be a 747 down (while they get refurbished).

Great - I thought I was missing something there. You are not on the 'sauce' already, [/b]KiwiFlyer  :)

I doubt we will see the 777 in SYD either........more's the pity.

    no sauce today

I wouldnt rule out the 777 either. Who knows, maybe when AKL-SFO changes to 777 there may be a continuation service to SYD (upgauge from existing flight)?
