RTW Business Class

Hi All,

2 of us are going to be travelling round the world over DEC/JAN. We want to do it all in business class.

We are both QFF silver, but if price on other non-oneworld combos is much cheaper we will prob take that.

Rough Itineraries

20 DEC: Brisbane – ASIA STOP 1 NIGHT – London (Prefer not to go through Sydney)
1 JAN: London – Edinburgh
5 JAN : Edinburgh - Salt Lake City
15 JAN: Salt Lake City to Brisbane

20 DEC: Brisbane – ASIA STOP 1 NIGHT – London (Prefer not to go through Sydney)
27 JAN: London – Paris
1 JAN: Paris – Edinburgh
5 JAN : Edinburgh - New York
11 JAN: New York – Salt Lake City
15 JAN – Salt Lake City to Brisbane

I would love any advice on airline combos / prices!

Also a travel agent in Brisbane to book through if anyone can recommend would be great

The Oneworld ATW ticket out of Australia is $9609 plus taxes . If you want to save a significant amount of money, then , if you have some FF miles, get a flight to India and start the ATW out of India for, iirc, approx $7000 ( though may have gone up slightly this month ). By buying ex-India, you will be able to make best use of the 4 South West Pacific sectors when you return to Oz ( e..g have a trip to New Zealand and a trip to somewhere in Oz for example )

As far as booking, I would recommend contacting the AA ATW desk and booking there. Booking through AA you can avoid a fair amount of fuel fines

Thanks for your help - We are going to use the one world fare and I will now be leaving from Townsville where I work.

Was now wondering the best way to get the most number of points out of the fare with the following plan/get best value.

I am QFF Bronze with 130 status credits.... I am guessing the AA Platinum Challenge.

My Plan:

A Platinum Challenge would get you the most points since you will attain Platinum early on in the trip.

How to get the best value really varies based on what you class as best value. Personally I tend to head in as direct as possible a manner to get to where I want to get to whilst others have a desire to take as circuitous a route as possible. e.g. you can get from EDI to JFK by flying EDI-MAN-JFK (earns ~8518 miles to AA) or EDI-LHR-LAX-DFW-JFK (earns ~19,840 miles to AA) but the travel time is a lot more

What is your desire in the trip?

I would also consider purchasing a ticket from TSV-India and then starting the ATW from there since that would (a) save money (ex India is about AUD7100 vs AUD9609 ex Australia) and (b) give you some useful sectors in South West Pacific when you return

Is that 7100 before or after the Indian luxury tax? IIRC it is somethink like 12% and applies to business and first tickets but not economy.

Dunno. Best thing to do is get the AA ATW desk to price it up.

I'm a bit confused, because reading the fare rules, to benefit from the discount the ticket would actually have to be issued in Colombo.
Does AA have an ATW desk in Colombo?

The ticket would have to be issued in Colombo . The AA ATW desk phone number is +1 800 247 3247

Book and arrange it and then have the ticket issued by the AA Agent in CMB.

Sounds like it is the base fare then. Including the luxury tax India isnt as great a deal.

The Qantas website has all those details here at the airline earning table for points earning, with a link there to SC earning.

If you want to find out distances between ports try the great circle mapper - Great Circle Mapper

Sometimes GCM distances and Qantas distances do not match exactly - this can be an issue if the distance involved is very close a to a "zone" boundary for SC earning.

I have a spreadsheet with lots (tens of thousands) of routings, distance, airline, etc; and link to a table with SC earning. Let me know if you want it emailed.
