RSA MEL F Lounge Qantas Official Response (Refused Drinks)

The majority of people are sensible in their drinking habits and would like to be given the respect to make our own consumption choices and not be part of the Parent - Child relationship that this tale represents.
Yes mum...it's ok for you to judge..
Surely it isn't acceptable to serve someone three cans of booze on a Sunday afternoon on such a short flight, with the final can being served after the announcement for prep for landing has been called?

+1 does not drink...the 2 of us would be entitled to 6 drinks in 1.5 hours....if I drank all that, I would need wheelchair assistance to get onto the plane!

Just a quick update

I have had a message from Red Roo who has advised that the issue has now been escalated with in the customer care department and that they will be back to me shortly

This matter has since been escalated internally with Customer Care, and I will again be in touch soon.

Looking forward to seeing the outcome of internal escalation.

This should be interesting; there are 3 or 4 aspects to this thing, from the first refusal (disrespectful/discourteous), to the lame explanation afterwards (?untruth?); whether 'RSA' as explained is actually QF and/or Accor policy (mis-understanding of RSA), and if so how is it reconciled to other 'service' lounges (consistently inconsistent), and the possibility there may be another issue in play (JQd) .

I think this might point towards some other action to cut costs of JQ pax using the First lounge, in the long term.

I think so too. It's the elephant in the thread.

Small serves? meh

Occasional perceived rudeness from staff? meh

This is an international 1st class lounge and you are on a $40 domestic fare? bingo!

I suspect you may be correct in that assumption.

Hope so. It's not as though it would be difficult to do.

I can't think of a better way to express it, but my past four experiences at a QF F lounge just haven't felt like "first class"... although that's changed on each flight (two QF, one EK, one JL).

Given how my taste buds are at altitude, I'd rather have more in the lounge (both food & drink) and less on the plane, and I thought that was kind of the point of the Flounges...

And therein lies the crux of the matter. Its ok to serve someone three cans of beer on a short flight but not ok to serve a woman more than one glass per hour whilst waiting for an international flight. That makes sense.

And surely its "adult talk" to expect someone not to require another can once the cabin is being prepped for landing. What does mum have to do with that? I'd rather hope dad would say the same thing, assuming they were being a responsible adult.

But mostly I'd like to know how many minutes/hours of your life you just wasted in dredging up a post that is probably years old. Its kinda weird.

My problem with that argument is that it's also possible that someone paid a couple hundred dollars for the same JQ fare and could be sitting next to someone who paid $150 for a QF flight to NZ. Does that mean that the JQ pax is now more deserving then the QF one since they spent more?

Then we get add in the WP guesting element on the JQ price beat on TT and it gets messy.
Best not go there IMHO.

When it's MEL-SYD, I think Flounge staff would:

1. Be aware that if flying JQd from MEL international, most pax are on very cheap fares. Often cheaper even than the JQ fares from the domestic terminal on the same day.

and/or

2. Be aware that most MEL-SYD JQd pax would not be paying anything like $200 for Y from MEL to SYD.

Not a great perception for them to deal with.

What I'm struggling to understand/ reconcile is an RSA push in the F lounge whilst 2 levels down in the same building the same company (QF) provides passengers that will be travelling on the same aircraft the opportunity to serve their own alcohol - forget RSA it's SSA ! (s= self)

Which is one reason why many suspect it has *nothing* to do with RSA at all!

Is this the real reason I'm asked what flight I'm on when dining? So they can limit my consumption based on fare class :p

That's my take on it as well. Wheel out the "RSA" excuse to shut down the real reason. With no disrespect to the OP and I am not implying that the following applies to him or his guests, I am sure there are times when there are "types" in the lounge that the waitstaff want to shut down (bogans, loudmouths, DYKWIAs) so how easy is it to use RSA as an excuse not to serve anymore grog....
