Royal Brunei Airlines Delays/ Cancellations

Tuesday 20 August 2019's scheduled 1830 hours BWN down to MEL, BI5, did not become airborne until 0333 hours on Wednesday 21. Arrival should be at 1203 hours, 513 minutes late for 788 V8-DLD. As the returning flight BI6 is not timetabled to push back until 1615 this afternoon, hopefully it should be punctual.

On Friday 1 November 2019, BI5 from BWN to MEL (instead of arriving at 0455 hours bright and early) pulled in at 2111 hours, 976 minutes late. BI6D, the 1845 hours MEL - BWN has naturally been delayed with B788 V8-DLD airborne at 2233, about 210 minutes late.

This aircraft often (though not always) forms BI3, the 0010 hours redeye from BWN up to LHR. With many passengers on BI6 (tonight it has a 'D' suffix for 'delayed') connecting on to London, it's highly likely that BI3 will run late as BI6 should arrive BWN at about 0145 hours, so BI3 may be able to depart - depending as to whether it's the same or another aircraft - from around 0300 hours. The plane then typically is at a hardstand at LHR all day so this ought allow it to resume the published timetable.

During coronavirus, BI6, the 1615 hours afternoon Friday 15 May 2020 MEL up to BWN is xpected to depart 150 minutes late at 1845 in the early evening. This morning BI5, unusually, arrived at 0526 hours, 91 minutes late so in line with some other airlines operating during coronavirus, the crew require the minimum 10 hours' rest before they can take the same aircraft back to their home nation. B788 V8-DLC is the plane.

BI6, the 1845 hours Friday 28 January 2022 MEL - BWN (B788 V8-DLD) took off at 1952 so expected arrival has become 2339 hours, 54 minutes late.

According to the EF seat maps, this flight has no one booked in J and one person booked in whY. That sounds unlikely, but is not a joke. (My lowest total ever was 11 on a MEL - CBR AN flight back around 1990).

One missed by me - apologies - was BI6, the 1430 hours MEL up to BWN on Tuesday 9 August 2022. Using B788 V8-DLB, this took off at 1544, arriving at 2044, 64 minutes tardy.

The next day of operation was today, when sister plane DLD was airborne at 1608. Predicted gate arrival - 2057 hours - is similar at 77 down.

Monday 13 December 2022 sees BI6, the 1330 hours MEL-BWN (B788 V8-DLE) not airborne until 1531 so arrival is expected at about 1923 hours, 113 minutes late.

This airline has cut its frequency to MEL from daily to only three days a week.

On Thursday 22 December 2022, BI5, the 2030 hours mid evening redeye from BWN down to MEL did not take off until 2236. B788 V8-DLD is arriving on Friday 23 at 0728 hours, 58 minutes tardy.

Tuesday 27 December 2022 has BI6, the hot day's 1330 hours MEL-BWN taking off at 1504 so suggested at gate arrival for B788 V8-DLB is 1847 hours, 77 minutes late.

This flight used to depart later in the afternoon, so turnaround has been shortened, though with an 0630 hours scheduled arrival it's far more than minimum. The airline has also (temporarily?) increased its frequency to and from Melbourne to five times a week, up from three. Years ago, this airline used to fly into and out of multiple Australian airports but (the GFC?) hit it hard despite Brunei's huge oil wealth.
