Looking for your thoughts here- have I aged prematurely and am I now just an angry old dude, or was I right to be angry!

My flight landed this arvo, turned off the runway for a long taxi (landed on the southerly runway at Avalon).

Even before the aircraft left the runway, a dude sitting in the emergency row (A320) got up, went to pretty much the back row, grabbed his three bags from a locker, went back to the emergency row, sat down and left his three bags in the aisle!

So, I'm travelling with two young kids, who I'd need to grab and carry if we had to get out in a hurry- trying to negotiate his three bags wasn't on my bucket list!

None of the crew noticed him (I couldn't see any of the crew from where I was sitting so guessing they couldn't see into the cabin very easily on that aircraft).

Thoughts?

If he was ahead of you then courtesy is that you wait before disembarking. If he was behind you then he wouldn't have impeded you. So I am not sure of the problem for you personally - although what he did was disobeyed the safety rules.

Of course if there was an emergency then he did impede the exit. Bad for all - not just you.

He was ahead of me, but that wasn't really my issue.
My issue was the exit rows were blocked (and less so he could have fallen onto us/baggage could have fallen) as the aircraft was taxing (and the turn off the runway was quite sharp). Totally selfish imho

Sounds a bit thoughtless to me. Don't you have only about 90 seconds to clear the cabin if there's a fire or something? Maybe it is like parking tickets: most people want others to obey the rules so long as they don't have to themselves.

What airline, what aircraft ? Guessing JQ? Did you say anything to the pax, or the FAs, at the time or while disembarking ?

Sure. But I'd say there are multiple selfish people on every flight. Stupid thing to do I agree.

I'd be more annoyed at the crew and the airline for allowing it to happen

Wait a second, didn't the FA's tell the pax to sit down over the PA / shouted at them ? Every flight I've ever been on when pax stand up during the taxi the FA's are usually on that pretty quick.

OP said the following in the original post:

Unless I've understood incorrectly I suspect he was trying to do 'the right thing' whilst at the same time not inconveniencing himself. If his bags were behind him in the locker then he'd either have to fight his way backwards to get his bags or wait until pretty much _everyone_ behind him left the plane before he could travel back and grab his stuff. Being in the exit row I suspect there was no storage space above him as the crew very often put their own stuff in those bins.

Big, huge no-no from a safety perspective and I really do believe it was absolutely the wrong thing to do, but people don't always think clearly (and he was probably annoyed at not having any above head storage too I suspect) - its why the crew needs to keep right on top of things.

Ultimately, crew fail in my view.

I'd be annoyed. And especially at the crew for not noticing.

As the OP said AVV, there's only JQ and JQ often board/disembark from both the front and the rear. So the offender likely just had to head to the aft door and grab his bags on the way out.
