Rex to fly between Australian capital cities

I wonder how long it will be until the interline baggage agreement with Virgin is ripped up. I was just scrolling through the Rex website and found this on the new web check-in page:

You'd think if they were going to remove the agreement they wouldn't bother including it on the new website especially given the amount of complaining rex is doing about Virgin (Aliance agreement, slots at SYD etc).

Not only will you be able to check your baggage to/from Virgin Australia flights but it will also be an ex Virgin Australia aircraft with the interior unchanged. A night time photo of VH-RQC clearly shows the purple, red, grey headrests have remained unchanged since the coat of paint it received last month.

I wonder if they replaced the J seat upholstery which has the "Virgin" branding stamped on it with a new "plain gray" cover?

There's also the "Economy X" branding they'll have to remove from those rows too.

Surely the ugly purple plastic dividing J and Y is going too - that isn’t a Rex colour?

Hopefully the stupid VA 1.0 practice of calling passengers 'guests', and QF's equally silly and inaccurate habit of calling us 'customers' are also consigned to history by the 'third airline'.

'Guests' I don't like. We're paying.

At least customers is more accurate. Calls the relationship for what it is... commercial (despite the pretended aura of 'loyalty' and 'specialness').

Huh? Don't like guests and customers? Isn't these the terms we generally use?

Or do you guys like 'Attention all passengers, we are ready for take off, so sit down shut up and hang on.' ?!

We're 'customers' when buying petrol.

The more specific term, 'passenger' is for use with passenger transportation: air, rail, bus, ferry and sitting in other than the driver's seat of a private motor vehicle.

Sounds like they are looking at Bali and NZ in the future possibly aswell.
So their strategy is to repeat the failures of their direct competitor who went broke doing it

We'll see if they do lie-flat trans-continentals, enter expensive widebody leases, , celebrity chef menus,"trendy" lounges, wannabe Chairmans Lounges, vanity flights using expensive long haul aircraft and engage in capacity wars, all the time building excessive costs into the business. If they do then their strategy would be to repeat the failures of their direct competitor who went broke doing it.

On the other hand, cost control, capacity discipline and basic offering would be repeating their strategy of Virgin Blue in the 3-4 years prior to becoming VA, which did manage to return a profit.

I was being a little flippant!

There was plenty wrong with VA as a business, that's for sure. But it was never really operated like one so it's a tough comparison.

At various times, b/s central thought it would be good if pilots stopped using the word passengers. Had zero traction and was never going to happen. Then someone didn’t like our PAs, so it was suggested they could write one, and we’d use exactly the same one every time. Or perhaps say nothing. I think they decided that we were collectively uncooperative.

Opportunism, I guess.
That story was in yesterday's online AFR. It was an old story well before the Virgin wind-up. i know the journo who wrote it and I suspect he was a bit short of fresh material.

Might've been taken 'seriously' had the 'other' Singaporean mob decided to 'buy' into REX for a 4th attempt at the Australian market with the SGP government bailout money.

The competition should be good (in theory)... but you'd think they could've maybe tweaked their livery design for their push into jet aviation. I've always felt their livery, colour palette and uniforms just felt uninspiring, tired and 90s...

Once you start to create “modern” “up to date” and constantly replacing “tired” liveries, uniforms etc you start building an expectation that things will be updated regularly, and therefore start building costs into the business. I think ZL is happy to leave that QF and target customers who don’t care so much about an up to date livery or modern cutting edge lounge ... there’s probably room for this type of carrier in the market place.
